Offensively, I thought you got near the A game, Cook was abysmal until that pick, then he was great. I'm not sure what was going on in the secondary. The bye week may have hurt them on that side of the ball, they got over enthusiastic with the game plan. They are at the point where they need to play deep cover 2.
That game always scared me, night games on the road are tough. But when you're up 12 with 4 minutes to go, you should be able to close it out.

Officiating, nation wide, is taking a big hit and mostly deservedly so...... but not for the call that turned out to allow Neb the winning points against MSU.
There have been some great post game discussions on this call. No one disputes that the MSU defender made contact and the contact caused the Neb receiver to go OOB. There is a dispute regarding how long it took the Neb receiver to re-establish himself in the field of play. However, that is not a reviewable call it is a judgment call; the only call that was reviewed on that play was whether or not contact was made and was the cause of the Neb receiver going OOB.
As much as I feel the state of CFB officiating demands corrective action, this play was handled correctly and the BT Front office's statement on Sunday supporting how the mechanics of the call and the review were correctly handled was appropriate.
As an aside, the Butt call (intent to deceive) was also correct. Our good friend Jamie (at least I think it is him) posting on mgoboard has a nice GIF explaining why. The play rarely gets called but it was the right one.
Another poster made a good point. He noted that an official that does HS games commented that last season, in a State Championship game, that a team did substituting that appeared to be illegal. What the officials did in this circumstance, which was the same as those in the Butt call, was to stop play and call an official's time out to review what they had thought they had just seen. Sounds like a good idea.
Bottom line in all of this is that there's probably not a lot wrong with the rules or with the mechanics of Instant Replay. The problems mostly involve application of the rules. Its not an insignificant problem. I'm certain conferences want competent officials and good officiating. The question for me, though, is what means are the conferences going to use to assure that. Right now, if I were a coach or an AD, I'd have a lot questions about that.
Edit: posted this before reading Wiz's definitive comment on it in another thread as well as the posting of ESPN's report on the BT Font Office's statement. Sorry.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; November 9, 2015, 10:06 AM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

The field guys did their job...the covering official saw contact...albeit slight...but the rule does not say anything about the amount of contact. It's pretty vague.
Eligibility Lost by Going Out of BoundsARTICLE 4. No eligible offensive receiver who goes out of bounds and returns
in bounds during a down shall touch a legal forward pass while in the field of
play or end zones or while airborne until it has been touched by an opponent
or official (A.R. 7-3-4-I, II and IV). [Exception: This does not apply to an
originally eligible offensive player who immediately returns inbounds after
going out of bounds due to contact by an opponent (A.R. 7-3-4-III)]. If he
touches the pass before returning in bounds, it is an incomplete pass (Rule 7-3-
7) and not a foul for illegal touching.
In the covering officials mind the contact caused the receiver to go out of bounds. He very well could have said it didn't. Judgement call. In my opinion...I personally don't think the contact definitively made the receiver go out...but that's my opinion. He did. So be it. 50/50. Lot's of those every game. That was a biggie. So was the non-DPI call that would have given NU a first and ten at MSU's 15 with 3:38 left and saved a lot of clock. Bottom line is had Dantonio not gone conservative late all this would be moot. Don't put the game in the officials lap. Win it outright.
Shut the fuck up Donny!
