Where is UNL's toughness? OWH writer addresses what he sees as UNL's biggest problem.

Sam Hahn.. I know he's 6'7" so it's deceiving, but he doesn't look like most 300lb guards. You can tell he moved from tackle.

I think that's always a tough question. There have been years in the past where the DL has looked bad, but UNL's 94 OL was that damn good..

On offense, I think UNL has talent at Tackle... very thin, but the starters are solid and should be in the all big 10 conversations. UNL's center played guard last year. He was undersized and really a liability in the run game. His pass pro was better mostly because he was in the way. He has decent feet. He's bigger this year (according to the above) and at Center should have less exposure, but a good NT will eat him alive. At guard, the best was RSFreshman Foster... who's now out for the season. Barnett is dinged up and so is Whitaker. Hahn has moved inside and should provide size and a tackles footwork, but he'd be backup if Foster was not injured. He's a walkon that we really don't know much about. Farmer is decent and will be an improvement over what UNL had last year. If Hahn is better than Utting was last year, we should see some improvement in interior OL play (weakness last year.. lots of pressure up the middle). The OL has young talent.. but it's just young.

for DL.. UNL has DE's.. on the roster... and in my lifetime, these guys would never have started in the past. Why UNL didn't go JUCO I don't know. Haven't recruited well and no real playmakers. I'm hoping they can hold the LOS, but I don't think that will happen either. Freedom played a lot last year and will continue to grow and develop. I just don't see the pass rush coming from this position. DT has young talent.. they'll end up being good in a couple of years. But it will be baptism by fire for the twins and Stolenberg. (Stolenberg is back from a knee injury) Maurice has to stay healthy.. Actually all 4 do. I'd feel much better if 1 of top 4 DT's last year remained on the team. Or they got the kid from Utah to transfer (his wife didn't want to move). I expect plenty of rotation.

8-4 or 7-5.. Minn will be key. UNL plays some tough games back to back that could really beat up the team without depth in key areas.

and as much as TA makes you frustrated, if he goes down, UNL has really no viable options at QB. jmo
