My Son pick his first ear of corn from Grandpa's field on Sunday.... He was so proud to carry that around. He also wouldn't take off his new Nebraska hat.

Sipple wrote today about the challenge facing the three freshman running backs as they take on critical roles for this Husker team this season.
It was especially interesting to see the trust coaches had in Ameer Abdullah on Saturday, sending him back to return both kicks and punts.
As anyone who has coached the position or played the position will tell you, punt returner is no easy job. You have to not just be fearless, but reliable.
So it's worth noting what special teams coordinator John Papuchis had to say after the game about Abdullah.
"He doesn’t carry himself like a freshman," Papuchis said. "I don’t know how much you guys have gotten to know him. He’s very charismatic, very confident. There was never doubt in my mind of him going back there. I didn’t have any butterflies (Friday) night or this morning thinking about that position. He’s a very good football player and I think hopefully we’ve found a guy that can be a very good returner.”
As for what Papuchis likes specifically about Abdullah's return ability?
"To be successful as a punt returner, more times than not you have to make the first guy miss. There will always be some kind of leakage in terms of the first guy down. Sometimes because we don’t block a guy strategically on purpose. And if you can make the first guy miss and then hit it north and south you have a chance to be a really good returner. And on his returns where he had some success that’s exactly what happened. He made the first guy miss and he got north and south. If we don’t run into our own guy at the end (on a fourth-quarter return), we probably score a touchdown."
The one guy we didn't see back returning kicks? Jamal Turner. I'm surprised at how little he got the ball Saturday. Understandably you don't just cater a game plan to one guy, or a true freshman for that matter, but it wouldn't surprise if coaches look to focus on getting him a few more touches this week.
His 19-yard reception in the fourth quarter, which would have been a two-yard gain for most guys, showed a little of what he brings to the table.

Nebraska starting middle linebacker Will Compton is "doing a lot better today," head coach Bo Pelini said Monday, but his status is "day to day."
"We'll see how it goes as the week progresses," the coach said.
Compton injured his foot early in Saturday's game. He suffered no structural damage, Pelini said.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Roach of Elkhorn played well in Compton's absence.
"I thought he handled the situation really well," Pelini said. "A lot of guys would be big-eyed. But he was really calm."
Meantime, starting cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, sidelined for the opener by a pulled leg muscle, "is doing a lot better," Pelini said. "I think he's a lot closer."
It's unclear if Dennard will be ready for Saturday's home game against 0-1 Fresno State.

I'm definitely stopping by, Entropy. And staying! I'm really looking forward to it. Especially since it's unlikely I'll have particularly high expectations of winning. I can relax and enjoy the festivities.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
