Nebraska is the No. 1 ranked college volleyball team in the country to begin the season.
The AVCA released its preseason poll on Wednesday, and as expected, the Huskers got the top spot, receiving 60 of the 64-first place votes.
Nebraska won the NCAA championship last season and returns five starters, including All-Americans Kadie Rolfzen, Amber Rolfzen and Justine Wong-Orantes. NU had a 32-4 record.
The Huskers have been ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll four other times (2001, 2005-07).
Texas is ranked No. 2, and received three first-place votes. Stanford got the other first-place vote, but was ranked 11th.
Nebraska will play Texas in the second match of the season in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup that is also a rematch of the NCAA championship last season, won by Nebraska 3-0.
Nebraska has plans of winning a Big Ten championship this season that has eluded the talented senior class, but once again, that won’t be easy. Three of the top four teams in the poll are from the Big Ten Conference, and seven of the top 20.
Other ranked Big Ten teams are Minnesota (third), Wisconsin (fourth), Penn State (ninth), Illinois (14th), Ohio State (15th) and Purdue (20th). Also, Michigan State and Michigan received votes in the poll.
Nebraska finished second in the Big Ten last season with a 17-3 record, one match behind league champion Minnesota.
Grammar... The difference between feeling your nuts and feeling you're nuts.
Scouts #1 Wr Lewis is visiting UNL again this weekend. Most people think the Huskers are in the lead. Lindsey, the you man that talent said OSU isn't interested in months ago, appears to now be a buckeye lean.
