  • As much as I'd like to see it, Tressell's not leaving the state of Ohio. That's where he has the most latitude to be who he is. As an outsider somewhere there's the risk of being held accountable.

    • Tressel wouldn't succeed at Nebraska at anywhere near the level that he did at OSU. His winning strategy at Ohio was to win 90% of his games with brute force talent and unimaginative gameplans. In other words, Kirk Frerentz with more talent. Cheating was a huge part of getting that talent advantage. Being located in Ohio obviously helped. Then he would come up with a game plan once a year to beat a lazy Lloyd Carr. When he faced any other team with similar talent (e.g. USC, SEC, etc) he got assraped more often than not. At Nebraska, he wouldn't have the local talent and he wouldn't have the cheating advantage.

Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
          Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

            • But, please, Nebraska -- hire Tressell. He'll built a wall around the state. Far fewer Nebraska kids will end up in Ann Arbor.

              • Ahahahaha...the embarrassing antics of the Michigan Men. Makes me hold out hope that you'll hire another dull-witted, fat, clod of a coach who's a 'nice guy' and too stupid to break any rules. Except keeping rapists on the team and covering that up, of course.

Maybe some dope who used to wash Bo's cars.

                • I believe both in not cheating and also in the importance of rules. In any situation. That is what Western civilization is all about even if most of us have forgotten it or find it an inconvenience. If Hoke and Tressell were the only two coaches available to Michigan I would choose Hoke every time and never have to think about it.

                  • I would take Tressel in a heartbeat. When "cheating" means violating arbitrary rules (that nobody enforces anyways) that keep people from getting paid fairly for their talents, then I'll take the cheater every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

                    • If I were Nebraska's AD, I would send either Gary Patterson or Mike Gundy a blank check and tell him to write in the number. Both of them IMHO are great fits who would kick ass at Nebraska. Especially Patterson.

                        • When a guy throws a spitball or uses a corked bat we wink and chuckle about it.

Kid in college sells his personal property while still on the team and he's the moral equivalent of a rapist.

                          • I didn't say anything about Pryor. I just said stuff about Tressell.

I agree with you to an extent. And when I call myself a zero-tolerance person when it comes to corruption in any setting, I understand that there will be a certain amount. But if you put it all on a spectrum, you will have no trouble guessing where I think Tressell falls on it and no trouble understanding why I think his position at Youngstown State is shocking.

                            • Tressel screwed up. No doubt. Deceit, looking the other way, lying to investigators, whatever.

I'm just the same way actually! It was a fundamental screw-up when he published a book that uses the same word twice in the title, and didn't really make sense in any way at all: Life Promises for Success: Promises from God on Achieving Your Best. (``Everyone wants to succeed—at work, at home, in relationships, and in life. But sometimes the road to success can be difficult, and even the most seasoned leaders can find themselves in need of some motivation.'')

So unfortunately Tressell has already burned through his second chance, but maybe lucky him that the holiday season is upcoming and it's time to be charitable. I definitely hope Nebraska gives him another chance.
