I'm not discounting him. But it's going to be hard for them to repeat that success very regularly. Point forward, once Penn State is back on track, I see an annual bowl game for them, most of them following 7 or 8-win seasons. He'll still get the occasional 10-win season when he has a few guys like Worthy and Adams blow up. Considering who he is coaching, those would be pretty good results. And who knows? Maybe Hokeattison would have tried to scoop up those guys. In the past few years they have found some under-the-radar guys like Frank Clark and Willie Henry (who apparently they really like). Hoke has a substantially different relationship with the Ohio coaches than his predecessor had.

He will have a difficult time winning the division starting next season. But I still expect them to be a solid team year in and year out as long as he's there.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

I am a single solitary M fan, so my opinion means squat. However, my lack of respect for Dantonio has nothing to do with his abilities as a coach. He knows x's and o's, and has been able to sniff out winning talent among 2-3 star recruits. The biggest reason he's been able to thump his chest about beating Michigan was the lack of suitable talent to compete with him in Ann Arbor. That was the fault of Lloyd Carr and Rich Rodriguez. In addition, Dantonio thus far has coached MSU teams with a serious lack of self-control both on and off the field. Their on-field actions with unsportsmanlike conduct and attempts to injure players will never earn this Wolverine fan's respect. I don't care if he hates the Wolverines. He's one of many CFB coaches who do. Take a number. What I do care about is how he goes about playing them. He and his coaching staff need to stop the dirty crap. Play the game straight up and let the chips fall where they may."in order to lead America you must love America"

Short-term (after 2013) they are probably #3 in the 'east' till PSU emerges from their sanctions and probably behind Nebraska & Wisconsin in the B10 pecking order. #5/#6 team in the B10 gets you what, 7-8 wins?
Year-to-year a lot depends on scheduling, this year they play absolutely no one in the 'Leaders' and shouldn't have an issue winning 9 games. A lot depends also on how strong the rest the B10 is, especially the 'east' programs; PSU, Rutgers, Maryland & Indiana.
If those teams struggle to be competitive in the B10, that makes an easy path for Dantonio to win 8-9 games consistently. If those programs are helped by joining the B10 (Rutgers & Maryland) and start to win recruiting battles and keep their in-state talent and PSU regains form as I expect (eventually), Sparty could end up struggling to win 7-8 games quite often.

Dantonio is the new Herm Edwards. Wants to win every game 17-14. Conservative, pro-style offense, punt a lot, play field position and defense. Works if you have Alabama talent, otherwise not so much. In today?s spread-based game field position isn?t worth what it used to, and any defense is one missed tackle away from a big play nowadays.
Nationally, interceptions per game was at an all-time low in 2011. The five seasons with the lowest number of average INTs per game have all come since 2006.
The national-average completion percentage also set a new record in 2011, crossing the 60% mark for the first time. It has jumped 5% since 2000...for comparison, it took 21 years for it to increase the previous 5% from .500 to .556, between 1980 to 2000.
Yards per play average tied 2010 for the all-time mark of 5.62.
Touchdowns per game was 3.59, an all-time high.
Scoring average per game of 28.3 was .1 PPG below the all-time high from 2007.
Interestingly, while rushing attempts per game have steadily declined in recent decades (The past few seasons have seen a slight uptick from 2008-2010) the average per attempt is increasing. 2010 saw the all-time high of 4.32YPA, and 2011 wasn?t far behind at 4.28YPA.
The five years with the highest YPA rushing have been 2007-2011. It has been over 4.0YPA since 2002, after crossing that threshold only twice (1954, 1995) between 1937 and 2001.
Dantanio and Sparty are fighting a losing battle against the trends IMO.

hoss..agree. as we've discussed, D's will give up points. What you want a D to do is disrupt and create some turnovers or bad plays to get your O back on the field. You can't play the style of ball that Carr coached anymore..Grammar... The difference between feeling your nuts and feeling you're nuts.

Dantonio has done a good job at MSU. You can look at the recruiting rankings, which I do see as a distinct advantage for M now and for the future, but they do a good job with the kids they get. No way he's fired. Who would they get that's better?I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.
