On a good traffic day, you might be able to make it from Plymouth in about 1.5 hours. But, its probably closer to 2 hours. From Plymouth, you'd probably take I-275 to I-96 West, then hit US-23 North, up just past Flint. Get off at the M-57 (Clio/Montrose) exit, and head west. Its about 25 miles west on M-57. Its a nice Sunday (sundae?) drive.
Don't forget to watch out for the speed trap when you come into town as you approach Liney's Kone 'n Keg, that is, when the local sherriff isn't getting fattened up with the complimentary free Ice Cream Liney provides for local law enforcement...

    • Good point. You have to watch for the unmarked local cop right after you pass the city limits sign. He has several very good hiding places.

                    • Florida transfer Walter Pitchford has decided to continue his college basketball career at Nebraska.

Pitchford, a 6-foot-10, 220-pound forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., said Saturday he gave his commitment to coach Tim Miles during his weekend visit to Lincoln.

“Besides the facilities, they have great coaches and great players,” Pitchford said. “Everybody there, I felt comfortable being with for the time I was there.”

Paperwork that will finalize Pitchford's transfer is expected to be complete Monday or Tuesday, at which point Miles can comment on his latest recruit.

Pitchford played in 13 games for a total of 22 minutes as a true freshman last season for Florida and announced in April he was transferring because he wanted to be closer to his ailing grandfather in Michigan. Pitchford said that because of his family situation, he is seeking an NCAA transfer waiver that would allow him to play immediately. However, a source close to the NU program said Pitchford would likely be a redshirt candidate, anyway. Either way, he has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Pitchford arrived in Lincoln on Friday and left Saturday. Of the players he met, he spent the most time with senior guard Dylan Talley.

“I like him a lot,” Pitchford said. “He was just letting me know how it’s going to be, just telling me there’s going to be a lot of basketball and you just need to focus and do what you need to do while you’re here.”

Pitchford describes himself as a hybrid forward, somebody who “can put it on the floor, take it to the rack, dunk it, shoot it.”

Florida played in Omaha in the NCAA Tournament’s first and second rounds in March and advanced to the Elite Eight for a second consecutive year. Pitchford played in both games in Omaha – both lopsided Florida victories. He finished the season 3-of-11 on field goals and grabbed four rebounds.

Pitchford played prep school basketball at Summit Christian Academy in East Lansing, Mich., where he averaged 17.4 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game. He played on the AAU circuit with the Michigan Mustangs and Team Detroit.

Pitchford joins junior college transfer Deverell Biggs, Texas Tech transfer Terran Petteway and Serbian freshman Sergej Vucetic as players to join Miles’ 2012-13 roster. Miles, who’s beginning his first season as NU coach, has one scholarship available for the upcoming season.

                      • A post from another board....

Pitchford will not seek a waiver to play next season. also, it appears Biggs may want to redshirt this year and start his career with Pitchford and NU's other transfer Petteway all in 2013. Pitchford and Petteway will be sophs and Biggs a junior (and hopefully Agau and a Chicago kid or two as frosh...).

That appears to be the year we're gearing up for to be competitive in the Big 10.
