Grammar... The difference between feeling your nuts and feeling you're nuts.

    • That's obviously the Huskers home stadium, but is that also where the CWS is played?

what I've enclosed is Haymarket Park in Lincoln Nebraska, where UNL plays. In omaha, the CWS is held at TD Ameritrade park. It is in downtown Omaha. There is another park in Omaha (actually in Pappillion) where the Omaha Royals play. Werner Park is the location where the BIG might be moving the BIG 10 baseball tournament next year.

Husker fans may need to learn the words to the Cardinal Mooney fight song at this rate.

The Mooney connection continues to pay dividends for Nebraska — the latest commitment from the Youngstown, Ohio, high school coming from linebacker Courtney Love, who went public with his pledge to the Huskers on Sunday.

The Huskers gained Love's commitment over homestate Ohio State, among plenty of others, while also showing the Red-White Spring Scrimmage stormout did little to hurt the program's recruiting efforts from that weekend.

Love becomes the second known recruit — the other being defensive end A.J. Natter (Milton, Wis.) — to commit after visiting Lincoln last weekend for the Red-White festivities.

Like Natter, Love comes from the backyard of a Big Ten opponent.

The Buckeyes were among an impressive list of high-profile programs that offered the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Love.

"It's tough a little because of the closeness to them, but I'm definitely going to get over it because going down there to (Nebraska), I know I'm going to be taken care of," Love told the Journal Star. "As far as the distance it doesn't even really matter, because I feel like I'm home there, it's like a second family. Obviously, I would have loved to go to Ohio State, but I fit best at Nebraska."

Love also made it clear this is a strong commitment.

"That's it, that's it. I'm done," he said of his recruiting experience. "I know where I want to be, and that's where I want to be is at Nebraska. I can finally relax and focus on next year and going to get another state championship."

While Love puts his attention on helping Mooney try to repeat as champs in Ohio's Class 3A, he knows a bunch of familiar faces will be there when he does arrive in Lincoln.

He would be the fifth Mooney player to join the Husker roster since Bo Pelini — a graduate of the school — took over as Nebraska's head coach. He is also the second Mooney player to commit in this class alone, joining four-star safety Marcus McWilson, who pledged to NU in February.

To further the connection, Love's father, Courtney Love Sr., went to high school with Pelini and Husker grad assistant Vince Marrow, who the recruit says is basically like an uncle to him.

"It was going to be very, very difficult to pull Courtney away from Ohio State because they mean that much to him," Love Sr. told Scout.com. "But he feels it in his heart that Nebraska is the place and I have to agree with him. You don't want your kid to go too far away, but you want what's best for him, too. When I go to bed at night, I know that he's in good hands."

Love is the fifth known commitment in Nebraska's 2013 class.

As a junior, he had 167 tackles and eight sacks, drawing interest from many of college football's heavy hitters, including USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan State and Florida State.

Such attention is never a bad thing, but after visiting Nebraska last weekend Love knew his decision was made.

There was no spring game but there was a realization: Lincoln didn't feel that far away from Youngstown for Love or his parents.

"It was basically like being back home for them," he said. "And for me, too."

              • Erstad takes the blame

Posted by: Steve Sipple on April 22, 2012 at 4:19PM CST

Purdue jumped on Nebraska early in the game and encountered little resistance in an 8-3 victory Sunday.

                Darin Erstad took the blame.

"We came out flat in the biggest game of the year, and that's on me -- I have to do a better job of getting them ready to play," the first-year Husker coach said.

A crowd of 6,014 was amped at the start of the game. However, the Boilermakers (31-6, 12-3 Big Ten) scored single runs in each of the first two innings to set the tone, before striking for four in the top of the fourth. The 6-0 lead was far too much for the Huskers (26-15, 8-7) to overcome.

I talked to some folks Sunday who know much more than me about college baseball. They feel Purdue is a team capable of playing deep into the NCAA Tournament.

I watched Sunday's game from a spot right next to the Boilermakers' dugout. They're certainly a tough-minded bunch -- a pretty tough crew, overall. They were in impressive in how they jumped on the Huskers from the start.

So, Purdue wins the series 2-1. Erstad said Nebraska must continue to grind through the late stages of the season.

"We're right there," he said. "I mean, we can make the conference tournament. We can win the conference tournament. Or we could be watching the conference tournament. There are so many different ways this could go.

"We're in the infant stages of helping these guys learn how to play consistently."

The infant stages ... We must remember that.

                            • Wiz - I'd love to do the road trip to Lincoln, but with that being a night game, it would add an extra day to the trip. Plus, I don't think Mrs. Liney will let me be gone that long without taking her ...
