Chief justice pushes back against calls to impeach judges who rule against Trump

WASHINGTON — Chief Justice John Roberts issued a rare statement Tuesday rebuking President Donald Trump and his allies for calling to impeach judges who have ruled against the administration.

"For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision. The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose," Roberts said in a statement.

Trump allies have called for various judges to be impeached for blocking administration policies in the first months of his second term.

But Trump himself raised the stakes on Tuesday, when he called for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge James Boasberg after he blocked the deportation of Venezuelan migrants.

"This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!" Trump posted.

Notice that Trump is following the Constitution in his critique of this activist judge. The proper legal remedy is impeachment (which we know will never happen with 47 Dem votes in the Senate).

Contrast this with Biden's reaction to the SC ruling that the executive branch cannot forgive student loans. It was total defiance and a plan to circumvent the decision.

Federal District Courts should not be able to cripple the entire country with injunctions applicable to the whole country. Their decisions should apply only to their Districts, and Appellate decisions should apply only in the Appellate District.

Tudor Dixon is a good person. She'd be excellent in either office. No matter what her personal belief is, as Governor, she'd never be able to persuade Michigan's Legislature to totally ban abortion in Michigan. All of the dems want Michigan to be an abortion carnival, (anything goes!) and there are enough Milliken/Romney "republicans" who will vote with them regarding abortion. She'd never get a ban.

All that being said, I think Mike Duggan (current Detroit Mayor) will eventually be the new governor. He's going to run as an independent. His main opposition will be Democrat Garlin Gilchrist, who is basically Gretch Whitmer's house boy. He's the lieutenant governor right now but very few people know it. Repooplicans have nobody who can mount a serious challenge to either of those.

I think Mike Rodgers will eventually be the Republican nominee for the Senate seat, and will likely win this time. I have no idea why so many people split their ballots in '24, voting for Trump, and Slutkin as Senator. But, that's Michigan politics. It rarely makes sense.

Peace talks on Russia/Ukraine conflict: Early reports of the phone call that took place today between Trump and Putin so far has produced nothing suprirsing from my perspective. This is a developing story but we know this;

During the call, Mr. Putin said his “key condition” to end the conflict and prevent it from escalating was a “complete cessation” of foreign military and intelligence assistance to Kyiv, the Kremlin said.

Putin reportedly was willing to discuss a cessation of strikes against Ukrainian electrical supply infrastructure but would discuss nothing about ending confrontations on the ground. Ukraine has not yet responded. This is more of just stringing the overly optimistic Trump campaign (and the breathless media peaceniks) to deliver on his promise to end the war. That was a naive, uninformed promise. Trump thinks he can play chess with Putin, He can't as he's not intellectually capable of doing that. He's getting played.
