We are talking about employees of the federal government, not civilians.
News today is that the average federal employee wage is $ 144,000 per year including benefits.
I am talking about non-military government employees. Approximately 30% of them are veterans. After their active duty is over they basically have an affirmative action program waiting for them to join some other agency like CBP or the VA.
