If Congress doesn't approve the request (in both Houses) within that time, the money goes out. But they aren't even required to hold a vote if they don't want to.

Trump's Team wants a fight to take to the Supreme Court and get the Impoundment Act (of 1974) declared unconstitutional for that reason. Without it they think he can put a permanent hold on anything passed by Congress that he doesn't personally like.
    I'm talking about SB-437. Introduced in 1993.

Nothing requires the President to spend money when it is fraud. The Democrat party is a huge money laundering operation, and somebody has to stop it. No judge can require that the President make fraudulent payments.

What you are saying is that if Trump stopped all welfare given to illegals, a district court could require him to pay it. That is just nonsense

One thing we could agree on is that judge-shopping by either party to find a friendly District Judge should not allow that DJ to issue a ruling that applies to the whole United States.

          • Hamas is on a death watch tonight. They've got about 4 days to live if they keep and/or harm the remaining hostages.

I'm wondering if the US is going to assist Israel in the final elimination of Hamas.

              • What Hamas is not accounting for is that Trump allowed Israel to have the 'bunker busting' bombs that they bought, but Biden (or his wife) held back. There's not a tunnel in Gaza that can't be hit now. I fear for the remaining hostages.

Ironic that one of the things Dems are screaming about now is Musk "was not elected".

                Neither was Jill.

Hamas has no bargaining chips at all. I'm wondering if Netanyahu and Trump may have found out that there are no living hostages remaining.

This is not going to be good for Hamas, or Gazans at all. Trump is not bluffing.

                            • I'm no constitutional law expert but from what I'm reading, the President cannot cancel spending authorized by Congress.

"According to Article I of the Constitution, Congress passes laws to spend money — appropriations bills. Some of these let the president decide how and when to spend the funds through executive agencies. But a lot of funding comes with specific instructions. Presidents generally can’t cancel such spending unilaterally — that’s fundamental to the separation of powers. “Where the purse is lodged in one branch, and the sword in another, there can be no danger” of an all-powerful president, Alexander Hamilton said at the convention to ratify the Constitution in New York." NYT article: Can the President do that?

Nixon tried to do what Trump is doing a lot more of and the Supremes ruled Nixon couldn't cancel congressionally authorized funds on constitutional grounds.
