I don't think there's a whole lot that can done about these wildfires -- HOWEVER -- some sort of forest management is absolutely critical. It's also generally critical to have a comprehensive water management program when you live in a fucking desert. California absolutely fails on both counts for clear Prog reasons. It may not be fair to make that case in connection with this particular disaster, but it's generally fair.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

They need to cut red tape and allow better forest management, that is for sure. That said, I believe one of the two worst fires (the one in Altadena I think) started right in the middle of a neighborhood. Not up in the hills in the brush. And a homeless lunatic started another one. It's just an inherently dangerous place to build dense, expensive development. But so are barrier islands on the Gulf and Atlantic and we do it anyways, so....
