The absolute genius of the people who created the McRib and Spam.
When my parents were poor, back in the day, the government used to give us the "gubmint cheese" and a canned meat product that resembled Spam. I ate many Spam and Cheese sandwiches. Grilled of course.

I liked that government cheese, but don't remember the govt spam. Real Spam has a shit load of flavors now and isn't really cheap anymore imo.

When my family was on "welfare" (as they called it back then) they gave us actual food, instead of food stamps. The Spam was not a every month thing, it was only occasional. They did have a canned roast beef product that came smothered in beef gravy that was really good. Hot beef sandwiches.
Things got tough when the factories were laying people off all the time. Cars would stop selling and the first thing GM did was lay people off.
