If you listen to the call to the Georgia SoS, it is clear that Trump was not trying to manufacture votes, he was asking for an honest count.

We are in a netherworld where asking for a count of valid votes is now not only racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic, it is now criminal.
Asking a state legislator to do something isn't a criminal act in and of itself but what ACB is saying is that it's not remotely part of the President's official duties to order around state legislatures. So if there WAS a crime that took place, it's prosecutable. I suspect several of the other conservatives agree with her but chose to stay silent for now.

The fake electors are where the liability lies. Trump's people organized false slates in 7 or so states. Not one of them was actually certified by a state legislature. Which is what Trump was hoping they would do after he browbeat them in phonecalls.

Trump's defense has been that he's somehow the Chief Elections Officer of the United States. There's no such thing.

    • Trump's pressure campaign failed to get any state legislature to ignore the will of their voters and create pro-Trump electors. So his team organized them themselves and pretended like they were legitimate. Mostly hoping to delay the electoral count on Jan. 6th and hope for some miracle to happen.

Whether you think anything adds up to criminal behavior is up to you. But what ACB wanted to point out (she didn't have to) is that Trump personally contacting state and local officials and giving them "free advice" on what they should be doing is NOT an OFFICIAL ACT of the Presidency. The president plays zero role in how a state conducts its elections. He has zero oversight over them. The SOS of Georgia does not report to Donald J. Trump.

Did Trump impose mandates that people get jabbed? I remember Biden doing so until the Supreme Court told him to STFU.

Would he have done so if he were still President in 2021? We'll never know. Vaccines became associated with Biden almost immediately, despite Trump's initial desire to receive applause for them. Now he wants all vaccine mandates eliminated, cuz that's what his base wants. "Vaccines give your kid autism", "Measles ain't so bad", that's his core constituency now.

I thought you were possibly engaging in the collective GOP amnesia over who was President in 2020. Mea culpa.

          • I also remember Kamala Harris and other high ranking Ds saying they wouldn't take anything developed in coordination with the Trump administration. It's' funny how everyone was hopping from one side of the line to the other depending on who occupied the White House.

            • I guarantee you Trump would not have imposed vaccine mandates. He probably wouldn't have fought against them like DeSantis either though. But Mike's general point is right. If it were up to Joe Biden, you and I would still be wearing masks on airplanes right now. It took a court order to get rid of that retardation.

                • Concocted a phony "Russian Collusion" scandal to undermine Trump before he even took office.
                • They want to pack the Supreme Court with liberal Justices who will rubber stamp all their batshit crazy policies.
                • Spent 4 years trying to remove Trump from office.
                • Weaponized our intelligence agencies to meddle in the 2020 election to help Joe Biden.
                • Imposed draconian lockdowns of U.S. citizens and mandated that people inject themselves with experimental medicine.
                • Have spent the last 3+ years trying to put Trump in prison, thereby removing the opposition party's candidate from the election.
                • Tried their best, with help from their media partners, to hide Biden's cognitive decline from the American people.
These are just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure there's plenty more.
Your list is very short compared to the actual list, and however much you despise these people, it's probably not enough.

Maybe not against private business but govt employees? I suspect the answer is yes. Trump pretty much did what Fauci told him until the day he left office. And gave Fauci some special commendation on his way out lol

                  • The "Party of Science" refuses to accept new information gained through experiments and studies that might conflict with their preconceptions. The "Save Democracy" party wants to imprison their chief political opponent. The "Democracy Dies in Darkness" people hid the president's deteriorating health from the voting public and lied ad nauseum about his cognitive abilities.

                    • Trump definitely listened to Fauci too much and really hurt his reelection chances by doing so. And it has hurt Trump's credibility on anything Covid-related going forward. His leadership during that time was abysmal.

With that said, I am pretty sure that he would not have mandated vaccines for anyone, including federal employees. He might have floated the idea, but the screaming from his base would had convinced him otherwise. Assuming he needed convincing in the first place.

                      • Who's our chief political opponent? The game show guy who fucks second-rate pornstars and cheats at golf? Ya'll got no one better? That's your intellectual and spiritual leader? Him?

That said he DOES represent the values of conservative America extraordinarily well. In looks, personality, temperament, intelligence, rhetorical skills, he's the total package. For most of you, it's like looking into a mirror.

How much of the anti-vaccine hate on the Right is due to the fact that it was Biden pushing them almost immediately? Trump was already gone when they were released to the general public. Had he been the one selling them from the beginning, would the reaction against them been as strong? I say no.

Saying no to the vaccine became a way to say fuck you to Biden and DC pretty quickly. I simply don't believe the venom would've been as strong if Trump was the pitchman and his govt encouraging people to take them.
