This is a big deal. Three defendants charged with obstruction in the January 6th actions at the Capitol appealed those convictions on the basis that Federal Prosecutors applied the scope of the law they were charged under beyond it's intent. The SCOTUS will hear the appeal.
The obstruction charge is central to Jack Smith's prosecution of DJT. If the Supremes rule in favor of the appellants, that will affect multiple other cases where the Feds charged people under that law. Importantly, Smith's pathways to a conviction of Trump on the basis that he obstructed a proceeding is toast. At the very least it will delay Smith's prosecution of Trump as SCOTUS will not rule until sometime in June.
