This is a great point. Egypt is a classic case. el-Sisi controls the Raffa crossing - one of the two ways to get anything in or out of Gaza. Biden, during his trip to Israel, claims he's managed to open the Raffa crossing to deliver aid to Gaza, Friday being the earliest that a caravan of trucks lined up outside the gate will be allowed to proceed from the Sinai into Gaza.

el-Sisi has stated that he does not want to let Palestinians into the Sinai because it facilitates exactly what Israel wants - the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from all of Israel and that eliminates any further discussion of a Palestinian state within the territory that Israel claims. The mistake the US made in invading Iraq was, per Donald Rumsfeld, Bush's SECDEF, the invasion force would have a light footprint. Even with that, the "light force" marched right to the gates of Baghdad, decimating the Iraqi armed forces on the way but stopped short of the Coup de Gras. We all know how the post war governance of Iraq went - it didn't. It would have been much better to march into the capital and install a military administration like the Allies did in Germany followed by a Marshall like post war plan.
