    • Was Kevin McCarthy Actually Undone by Personal Grudges? (thedailybeast.com)

In a revealing anecdote from her new book, former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson described what happened when she, Gaetz, McCarthy, and other members joined Donald Trump on a presidential retreat to Camp David. McCarthy ordered some alcohol and invited a small group back to his cabin. It was around 1 a.m. when there was a knock on McCarthy’s door.

I thought it was Camp David staff coming to warn us to quiet down—Kevin’s cabin was across from the president’s. But when Kevin opened the door, we discovered Matt Gaetz leaning against the doorframe. Matt straightened his posture when Kevin asked him what he wanted, and he explained that he had seen my golf cart parked outside and thought that this was my cabin. Embarrassed, I got up and asked Matt what he needed. He explained that he was lost and asked me to escort him to his cabin. I told him to proceed around the circle drive—all the cabins were clearly marked and it was impossible to get lost. He asked me one more time to leave with him. “Get a life, Matt,” Kevin said, then shut the door.

      • circa 2020.....heh...

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden says if elected, he would not tear down the parts of the barrier along the U.S. Southern border built during the Trump administration — but he would cease construction.

"There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration, No. 1," he told NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro during an interview with journalists from the National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

"I'm going to make sure that we have border protection, but it's going to be based on making sure that we use high-tech capacity to deal with it. And at the ports of entry — that's where all the bad stuff is happening," the former vice president said during the virtual interview on Tuesday.

        • Progs for OPEN BOARDERS!!!!!

Along with SPEND, SPEND, SPEND, This policy is right up there with the best of them. Oh, lets not forget the inconceivably stupid plan to eliminate cars and trucks with combustion engines fueled with gasoline by, I think, 2035.

There have been several articles floating around since McCarthy's ouster from the speakership about the rise of radicalism here that threatens American liberal democracy. All of the shit, and more on the prog's short to do list, I mention above, taken in context, is flamingly radical - if such a term can be applied to plain old fucking stupid policy. Because of the rise of intransigence that has infected the legislative branch of government, the last several years have been bereft of reasonable debate and negotiation; a cornerstone of liberal democracy that is slowly slipping away. Sad, really.

Also, Wisconsin may want to invest in tighter security than this. I mean, no metal detectors? Some dude with no shirt and carrying a gun can walk right up to the Governor's door?

                              • This is a well written article by a retired US Army general that encapsulated and put into historical context, for me the implications of the threat by R's to either eliminate, reduce, or hold up the flow of money and direct military support to Ukraine. Doing so would amount to a failure of American leadership in promoting and protecting liberal democracy - something that was avoided at the onset of WWII although, even then, the threat of US isolationism was real then and as real as it is today vis-a-vis Ukraine

I'm in the group of Americans that believe government spending should be drastically reduced. But, given the historical context of what's at stake if funding from the prosecution of Ukraine's war with Russia is significantly reduced or delayed, the result of failing to give Ukraine what it needs to win will be catastrophic.
