Maybe, but that's where the money gets spent and where massive savings can be had. In the past, I've seen reasonable analysis of how to pare back benefits. Finally getting big pharma to negotiate some Medicare drug prices is one example of chipping away. I've also seen reasonable ways to restructure social security put forward by various think tanks. It's doable but the political will isn't there and it should be by overcoming the ridiculous negativity of such a move by, again, posturing extreme Ds. AOC comes immediately to mind. Calling that shit out is the job of house leadership. As wiz points out its not happening because, well, leadership is lacking the courage to do what's right for the people.

Regarding SS benefits...probably this biggest fraud in all of government spending...but it's not the peoples fault. It was a flawed system from it's inception and people are getting fucked and will get royally fucked if something doesn't change...but keep kicking the can down the road...keep spending billions on Ukraine...green energy nonsense...and protecting the 3 legged beetles in Uganda. This isn't a right or left issue. It's a bloated deep state motherfucking bullshit system.

And 50% of discretionary spending. Which comes out to about 31% of Federal spending.

Rip the damn cap off Social Security AND require the money coming in from FICA can only be used for Social Security AND Medicare. There problem solved

Want to actually fix the southern border? Simple. Hire a whole bunch of immigration judges and other staff to get rid of the backlog. But then again Republicans are not really interested in actually fixing borders because it is an easy way to rile up their base.
