  • I'll use "progress" to refer to societal changes w/o saying good/bad -- but Mike gets at the other side of DSL's "both sides"-ism. What we think of as conservatives are not necessarily a fan of cultural progress while those on the Left are not necessarily fans of technological progress. I personally find the latter more perplexing as the notions of cheap food (GMOs) and cheap energy (oil/gas) seem like they should be universallly lauded. I mean, I think any country would take cheaper food and cheaper energy if offered. Not every country would take the cultural progress in the US and other certain countries.

    But, whatever.

To be fair, there is a rapidly growing faction on the Right that is also against GMOs, vaccines, food additives, and the like. I have never really noticed the Left to be anti-technology -- but the modern Left has more of a Star Trek-inspired science fiction view of what the world can look like. It's going to plunge us into catastrophe if it isn't stopped.

    • The Chairman has elaborated on his wonderful story about seeing two gay dudes -- "well-dressed" -- kiss in 1961 Wilmington (and his dad telling, "it's love" or something). Now the two men go their separate way into the DuPont building and the Hercules building. The latter was built in 1983.

That's a 100%-no-about-it merit-based assessment of one's life. MERIT. It's pure equality of opportunity and absolutely rejects the idiotic Woke Equity principles of equality of outcome.

That's it. Under the teaching of Christanity, the heaven question isn't "are you black?" -- it's pure merit. And that is a total and complete rejection of Woke.

Nothing else to it. No bible quotes needed. There's zero way to credibly dispute any of that.
Well said as to merit, but not exactly what Jesus taught.

In Christianity, man has fallen and all men deserve eternal damnation. Into this milieu comes Jesus who offers to take all sin on himself and pay the price demanded by a just God. Humans can accept this GRACE, or not. If they accept, then they can be expected to follow the teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Christianity is based on the resurrection of Jesus from the dead because that confirms all the other things He said; most importantly the remission of sin by his resurrection. The Christian gets to heaven by GRACE, not by WORKS.

25 years ago homosexuality was still illegal in some states (though not aggressively enforced).
          No. Not exactly.

Conservatives view man as inherently sinful and selfish ("evil" in the philosophical sense). Progressives view man as improvable ("good" in the philosophical sense). Progressivism is about finding good men to run the country through the government. Conservativism is about setting up a society where the evil of man is controlled in the economic sphere by capitalism's "invisible hand" and in the religious sphere by Protestant Christianity.

Free market capitalism and Protestant Christianity are the two pillars upon which the great success of the US nation has been built.

Never mind any of that. Just find those manifests from Epstein Island to see if Jesus ever went there.

                            • Ukraine Update: Everyone has heard the Ukrainian "Counter-Offensive" is underway, having probably started as early as June 4th - more than a week ago - with preparatory artillery fire and drone attacks in rear areas. Ukrainian military spokes-persons have urged media to stop characterizing military operations as a counter-offensive. Ukraine is conducting an ongoing offensive designed to restore Ukraine's pre-2014 (Russia's seizure of Crimea 02/20/14 - 03/26/2014) boarders. Here are some takeaways:
                              • Warfare favors the defenders in most cases. The Russian army is well prepared for attacks on it's positions having built formidable defenses to include mines that channel military vehicles into zones of drone and artillery fire, trenches, and structures that restrict the maneuver of armor and tracked artillery. Russian forces have been building these for months.
                              • So far, Ukraine's ground operations have only made minimal territorial gains and have reportedly suffered unexpected losses.
                              • The Russians are much more adept in fighting and executing combined arms operations than they were when they were routed from Kharkiv Oblast in September '22. Particular credit is being offered by analysts for Russian EW effectiveness versus GPS guided munitions and loitering drones.
                              • That the Ukrainians don't have air superiority in the conduct of these probing and shaping attacks (and neither does the Russian air force ) has reduced their effectiveness considerably - Ukrainian and Russian air forces have been used but operations are limited with the Ukrainians being limited by insufficient fixed and rotary wing assets, the Russians by limited success with coordinating air and ground operations at the FEBA and avoiding friendly fire incidents.
                              • Both sides are playing a chess game trying to get the opponent to commit the bulk of it's forces in a way that exposes strengths, weaknesses and intent/objectives.
                              • The Ukrainians are assessed to have assembled, trained and equipped with western kit 9 Brigade sized units of (+/-) 40,000 soldiers along with around 100 tanks and other fighting vehicles in each brigade. At most, Ukraine has deployed and committed to combat only 3 brigade sized units. Observers have yet to see the number of tanks that would normally be committed to a brigade's attack axis - supporting the view that current operations to date are probing and shaping operations not a major offensive operation.
                              • That hasn't stopped the media from speculating so, be wary of what you might read about where forces are being directed and which side is winning or losing.
                              • Analysts predict months of increased and intensified conflict with an outcome not to be determined until the end of the summer months. It is not yet clear to analysts watching the battle space where the main attack axis will be focused and what objectives that axis might have. Expectations for a quick Ukrainian victory over the occupying Russian army with commensurate large territorial gains is unrealistic.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
