      • Todays feel good story:

Jessica Bates, a widow and an ultrasound technician at a hospital in Ontario, Ore., already has five biological children, ages 10 to 17, with her deceased husband, David.

She became a widow in January 2017, when a man who had recently been released from a state hospital abducted his wife, fled from police in a pickup, and crashed into their car while she and her husband were driving to work, according to the lawsuit. David Bates died at the scene. Jessica suffered a concussion, broken bones, and a collapsed lung.

The couple’s youngest child had just turned four at the time.

Not quite "family vaporized in a ladle"- bad, but bad enough.

Bates said she’s seeking to adopt a pair of siblings under age 9, hoping that adopting two children would lead to each child feeling less alone or isolated. She said she regularly has a house full of kids, and she doesn’t believe adding two more would be overwhelming.

What an amazing woman, the world needs more Jessica Bateses in it.

She began the process in March 2022. She filled out forms and paperwork, provided references, her work history, financial information, and was fingerprinted. Then she signed up for Resource and Adoptive Family, or RAFT training, which she took over the summer.

The state’s handout materials include examples of behavior the state expects of prospective parents, including: displaying “symbols indicating an LGBTQ-affirming environment,” including the rainbow flag and a pink triangle; displaying “pictures and posters of diverse people who are known to be LGBTQI2-S … and families with same-sex parents”; using “language that they [the child] use to express their sexual and gender identity”; and participating in “LGBTQ community activities,” including taking them to Pride parades.

An instructor also explained during class that adoptive parents must use a child’s stated pronouns and affirm a child’s gender identity if it doesn’t align with their sex.

In a follow-up conversation with a state adoption official, Bates was asked, in a hypothetical situation, if she would take a child to an appointment to receive cross-sex hormone shots to facilitate a gender transition. She responded that she would consider that child abuse.

In September, Bates received a call informing her that her stance on LGBTQ issues did not comply with RAFT training or state regulations, and she was disqualified from adopting.

The state of Oregon thinks a child is better off in a foster home or state facility than with Jessica Bates because she (correctly) views the facilitation of gender transition in children as child abuse. This is the modern political Left in the United States in a nutshell.

Perfect lead-in to my post about the woman in Oregon. With no functioning Republican party in this country, the progressives are running roughshod. Thank the universe for SCOTUS, the only thing holding this shitshow together.

The Trump Indictment...just as thought...is a fucking sham...Bragg brought nothing new to the table and in any sane non-looney court it would be tossed out before the ink is dry...but of course...this us NY...LOON CENTRAL.

Democrats outspent Republicans 5 to 1 in Wisconsin. I can't recall Trump mentioning the race a single time. The RNC is way more concerned with running defense for Agent Orange than winning elsewhere.

A reckoning is coming for both parties but the Republican one has to happen first.

Do you think there is a rift in the Democratic party? Like progressive vs. centrist? Because it looks to me that the progs are running shit and winning elections. Biden was supposed to be Manchin-lite and serve as a bulwark against the far Left but in reality he has facilitated the progressive agenda to an alarming (IMO) extent.

Agreed that the Rs need a healthy civil war before the 2024 election. Will they continue to be the Orange Man cult or decide they'd like to win elections and try to do some actual governing? There are some really good models of this in Florida, Georgia and Texas. Incidentally, states with chief executives that don't cow to Trump.

Rifts in the Dem Party are generally less extreme than in the Republican Party (IMO) but they have no incentive to drift towards the center unless there's a real threat that they'll start losing the burbs and independents. That won't happen so long as Trump is around.

It's almost as if it's not Trump's fault for losing the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Not that it hasn't kept political commentators from offering their piss takes on the matter.

Trump is going to be blamed for every Republican loss until 50 years after his grandchildren are dead.

They aren't going to lose the bubs and independents with Trump gone either. You know that, of course, but the usual consultant class idiots making their rounds on the talk shows today don't.
