I don't know Mike. There are norms in society that have developed over centuries, and they are encoded in our laws and customs. Name-calling by the left should not be able to radically change law and custom. But it has, and that is why this is a debate.

I agree that red-flag laws present more problems than they solve, and that is what we were talking about. Mental illness is mostly a discernable line that might be able to be enforced. At least there is some logic to it.

My first wife eventually had to be institutionalized because she developed paranoid schizophrenia. In the later stages, she was seeing things and she was paranoid. But she never acted out like the fat guys who put on a bikini and wave their dicks in front of kindergarteners. At some point, someone has to say, "...that is crazy!" because that is the truth.

During her years in and out of mental institutions, she was in an institution that released a man who had been an in-patient for six months. That man went home and took his wife and two kids to the foundry where he worked and vaporized them in an electric ladle used for melting metal. Sometimes you have to say that someone is crazy when they are.

"QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley released early from federal prison, transferred to halfway house - CBS News

BTW, his lawyer (William Shipley) on Twitter says the Tucker Carlson videos played no role in him getting released early. It's all because of good behavior credits he earned in prison.

The highlight (I guess) is an interview with a fellow "high roller" that knew Paddock and said he was very upset at not receiving the same fringe benefits as in the past.

                • Guns are not evil. Evil people with guns are evil. Prog love to focus on the tool...not the person. If Progs focused more on holding those accountable for violence rather than virtue signaling to their whacko base we might actually come up with solutions that work.

Soft on crime. Hard on guns. That should be the Dem/Lib/Prog slogan.

                    • Easy access to guns, American gun culture and the type of guns available are problems.

To say that they are not is ridiculous.

                      • Why does the US have this problem, but other countries do not?

                        Make them say it.

...more gun laws have not put a dent into the problem. In fact the states and cities with the most stringent gun laws have the highest crime and murder rates. The core problem is there are evil people in the world and they need to be locked up for a long time. There has always been evil in the world...and they don't have to have a gun either. You are looking at the issue all wrong. I'm not even going to go into our constitutional right to own a gun because you obviously don't believe in it anyway. But if you think if we banned all guns tomorrow (heh good luck with that) it would make no difference...just like Prohibition didn't cure alcoholism.

                              • The core problem is that those evil people have easy access to a weapon capable of killing many people quickly.

Why the fuck don't other countries have this problem?
