          • CG,

Yeah, it’s silly - especially the one for Rosa Parks. The original blurb for Korematsu is worded wrongly to begin with. The injustice he faced with wasn’t really because of how he looked per se. FDR signed an Executive Order after Pearl Harbor to send Japanese Americans to Internment camps and the Supreme Court ultimately upheld that action.

Just be glad that the revised blurb didn’t read, “The Democratic President of the US sent some innocent Americans to Internment Camps because of their Japanese ancestry. Democrats! What do you expect?”

lol, for the matter, the one for Rosa Parks could note that the mayor of Montgomery and the governor of Alabama during the Rosa Parks injustice were also democrats.

Ha! That is probably the next step.

It doesn't matter if they were Dems or Repubs (and we won't get into the switch in party ideologies here) because that is not the issue.

The fact is that they were discriminated against because of their race, a reason that "we" can't talk about in DeSatin's Florida.

              That is fucking ridiculous.

Oh, the party under which a tragedy or injustice happens absolutely does matter with partisan politics. To paraphrase, never let a tragedy go to waste.

Yeah, that was pretty obvious to just about everyone at 12:30 EST on January 20th, 1981.

I am a resident of FL and feel no barriers to discussing race related issues. We can talk about race all we want. that's not the issue and I believe you know this, CGVT.

The issue for Governor DeSantis is how questions involving race (among other social justice, equity and identity issues) are illuminated in the state's education system. DeSantis would argue there is no place in FL classrooms for teaching components of critical race theory that include making someone feel discomfort, guilt or anguish on account of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin. IMO that pretty much sums up the impact of CRT and the 1619 Project, although it's authors and proponents strongly object to that characterization of their CRT work. They might have a point. Unfortunately, the risk of racially biased teachers pushing the worst aspects of CRT as gospel and without fully discussing opposing views as part of the curriculum warrants limits to that.

Because it is DeSantis' view that the impact of CRT and the 1619 project, intended or not, is as I described it above, he rejects and seeks to eliminate classroom instruction that advances the CRT/1619 project notion that disadvantages for selected groups are from mere chance of birth and are factors beyond anyone’s control. Equality of treatment under the law is therefore not a sufficient condition to achieve justice...... or equity for all Americans (an unfortunate conflation of terms). Accordingly, the white races have a moral obligation to do something about this.

All of us are going to agree that the Rosa Parks stuff is "silly." I can only speak for myself but intended or not the shit that CRT and the 1619 project push does not belong in the educational systems of the states without guarantees that opposing views will be in the curriculum .......and BTW, tough to single out "DeSatin." 44 states have introduced bills or taken other steps that would restrict teaching critical race theory. Americans in general reject CRT and their legislators are speaking for the people.

But, man does it play to partisan hacks.

                        • FTR, the Florida Department of Education says:

“any publisher that 'avoids the topic of race when teaching the Civil Rights movement, slavery, segregation, etc. would not be adhering to Florida law.'”

So, per Florida, the Publisher’s for show bullshit is not adhering to Florida law, which, as Buchanan notes, is CRT-focused.

But, one thing I do know is that Progs never actually read the laws DeSantis passes or they do and are remarkably dishonest pieces of shit. I’m fairly sure it’s the former and just gross ignorance.

I lean toward the latter when considering many of the prof posters here. Nobody can honestly be that stupid so they definitely fall into the “dishonest pieces of shit” basket.

Great point. Easy to observe the utter shittiness of political discourse. Most of the time it's not worth addressing. But the shit-storm filling social media and news rooms across the country characterizing DeSantis as this rights abusing, authoritarian governor warrants a response. CGVT's post serves as a launching point.

I can go down the list of DeSantis' policies and check most of them as resulting in required, useful in its effect, legislation since DeSantis was elected. You all know how I felt about the asshattery of the Federal response to the pandemic and how DeSantis, mostly singlehandedly among his peers, established sensible policy in the state of FL rejecting the bull-shit flying from the administrative state in the form of HHS dictums..... most notably the unconstitutional shut down of the cruise ship industry.

As we approach the next presidential election season, the asshattery of the prog's attacks on DeSantis are going to mushroom. All of it will be invalid politically motivated nonsense. America needs a president who is committed to and will unabashedly work to stem the tide of progressive policy and formation of an administrative state that American's reject. The ones that are turning this great country into a cesspool of crime ridden broken cities and a lying, deceitful federal government and congress that cloaks their socialist legislative agendas by labeling them with happy sounding names. That guy, right now, is Ron DeSantis. I digress ........ here's a link to the public education law in FL and the important part you should read below it.

                                (h) The history of African Americans, including the history of African peoples before the political conflicts that led to the development of slavery, the passage to America, the enslavement experience, abolition, and the history and contributions of Americans of the African diaspora to society. Students shall develop an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping on individual freedoms, and examine what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purpose of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions. Instruction shall include the roles and contributions of individuals from all walks of life and their endeavors to learn and thrive throughout history as artists, scientists, educators, businesspeople, influential thinkers, members of the faith community, and political and governmental leaders and the courageous steps they took to fulfill the promise of democracy and unite the nation. Instructional materials shall include the vital contributions of African Americans to build and strengthen American society and celebrate the inspirational stories of African Americans who prospered, even in the most difficult circumstances. Instructional personnel may facilitate discussions and use curricula to address, in an age-appropriate manner, how the individual freedoms of persons have been infringed by slavery, racial oppression, racial segregation, and racial discrimination, as well as topics relating to the enactment and enforcement of laws resulting in racial oppression, racial segregation, and racial discrimination and how recognition of these freedoms has overturned these unjust laws. However, classroom instruction and curriculum may not be used to indoctrinate or persuade students to a particular point of view inconsistent with the principles enumerated in subsection (3) or the state academic standards. The department shall prepare and offer standards and curriculum for the instruction required by this paragraph and may seek input from the Commissioner of Education’s African American History Task Force.

Yeah, this statute DeSantis signed is all about racist school censorship and the Kristallnacht book burning Ron DeSantis running the Gestapo state of FL.
