Having a high IQ and being a functional, competent human being really aren't the same thing. A lot of geniuses are lousy human beings, integrate poorly in society, and are both terrible leaders and organizers. FWIW Pete reportedly has a pretty high IQ, was a Rhodes scholar, and supposedly speaks 7 or 8 languages. And you consider him a nitwit soooo.....that sorta disproves your thesis right there.

The reason I underlined "... there is a tension between competence and diversity." is because that is the point of my post. I don't mean that IQ is the only indicator of competence. East Asians have a higher median IQ than whites. Law and medical schools are actively discriminating against Asians. Why is that?

Put differently, what if congress passed a law that said there should be diversity in the NBA? The goal would be to get 61% of the players to be white. This is just another example of affirmative action at work. Blacks are simply more competent at basketball than whites, and in a meritocracy, competence wins. Why can't we apply the same standard to the Vice Presidency, or to the Secretary of Transportation?
