Lula is beloved figure in Brazil despite his government's corruption that probably ran toward the billions. Bolsanaro is a total conservative populist who, of course, emphazised "family" and "tradition" and all the stuff that might play well in a big Catholic country.

      Very interested election.
Bolsanaro can still win if Mike Pence has the courage.

Legacies at private schools are overwhelmingly white and come from rich families. Talent is right that they are pretty much taking spots that otherwise would've gone to a white kid (or Asian).
I've been listening to the oral arguments. Gorsuch posed a hypothetical asking if legacies, students whose parents were willing to build an art museum, and professional-level squash players, (all of whom currently receive priority in admissions) were not given special treatment, would that also work toward a more diverse student body.? It had the Solicitor General jumping through some funny machinations. The fact is, there is no basis for legacy preferences at public universities. Harvard is a special (private) case, and one can see them admitting a student whose family is going to build a building for the university.

There have been no arguments presented that question the whole premise of "diversity" in a student body being beneficial to the student body as a whole. Certainly, it is beneficial for black or Hispanic students individually, but not so for the student body as a whole. Thomas deals with that extensively in My Grandfather's Son.
