  • Apparently Georgia's second day of early voting was even bigger than the first. 268,000 have already voted, slightly ahead of the total that voted in the first two days for the 2020 election and blowing away the 2018 midterms number. These are in-person votes, not mail ballots

Yes, saw it yesterday. Waited to see if the ISW assessment that gets released later in the evening portrayed it in the same way. It did. The caveat is that the ISW daily assessments are bounded by the fact that the Ukrainians are really tight lipped about their operations in the southern command. The Russian MOD is more forthcoming but unreliable as they are trying to shape a favorable and likely alternate reality in the battle space.

One thing that I gather from ISW's reporting of Russian MOD daily statements is that gains that are reported are, on close analysis, of so little strategic or tactical importance as to be generally disregarded. Juxtapose the tight opsec demonstrated by the Ukrainians and it is really hard to accurately determine opposing troop positions on the ground. That determines who is in control of it and who isn't. milbloggers tend to be more reliable sources but ISW's thinking is that some of the prominent ones have been either shut down or infiltrated by Russian propagandists.

Another problem is that the Russians are cloaking the forced relocation of Ukrainians and Russian troop movements into Russia under multiple false narratives, e.g., "vacations" R&R associated with normal troop rotations, routine "filtration measures." What ISW did read into the new overall commander's statement that the situation in Kherson is "difficult" and "evacuations" are underway is that the damage to the Kerst Straights Bridge, the destruction of the Antonivka Bridge and Ukraine's daily artillery and air interdiction strikes on Russian supply points and troop concentrations is severely detracting from Russia's ability to resupply and defend Kherson and surrounding villages and towns.

One thing that has been mentioned is that Ukraine is much less likely to apply a scorched earth policy of destruction in Kherson than the Russians demonstrated in Mariupol in the South and cities in the Eastern Theater. That may stop Ukraine from trying to advance into Kherson and conduct the typically destructive urban warfare that would follow. They'd much rather play the long game and see the Russians abandon defense of the city. That may actually be happening under the cover of what I mentioned above. IOW, it's not civilians being evacuated but Russian troops. It has already been established that Russian officers and their families posted there left weeks ago. That's also taken place in Crimea - all signs that Russian officials fear they cannot defend and hold Kherson or, possibly even Crimea against a determined Ukrainian offensive either real (less likely) or believed to be a threat through Ukrainian disinformation (more likely).
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
