Georgia remains on track for early voter turnout records. As some of you may recall, The Chairman referred to Georgia voting laws as making "Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle" and so forth. Ultimately, of course, MLB moved the All-Star game to a state with, well, more restrictive voting rights than Georgia but one that is blue.

So, obviously, it's all very shocking that a shit-ton of people are taking advantage of Georgia's "Jim Eagle" early voting laws and, well, voting.

So glad the adults are back in charge. They're well-positioned to consolidate their gains come November.

From that article, DSL's boy, Larry Summers and a former Obama economist pretty much call out the stupidity of the show vote:

While some progressives complained the bill doesn’t go far enough in allowing government crackdowns on industry, multiple centrist Democrats countered that it wasn’t the best legislative path. Some moderates in the pro-business New Democrat Coalition, for instance, were spooked by a conversation with former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who compared the effectiveness of price gouging legislation to former President Donald Trump’s infamous remarks about injecting disinfectant into veins to ward off Covid-19. In other words, it was “dangerous nonsense,” said Summers, according to a person in the room.

A few weeks earlier, Jason Furman, a former economic adviser to President Barack Obama, cautioned members that blaming corporations for prices was like “blaming gravity for plane crashes.” Both speakers spoke to members as part of the caucus’s inflation working group.

And, just in case anyone is actually trying to keep score at home....the US has lost over 1M barrels per day in refinery capacity. That means gas/diesel supply ceilings are lower than they were in 2019. it is very difficult to build new refineries given the Federal governments overt hostility toward fossil fuels and their role as gatekeeper via countless regulatory processes. If you do venture into that thicket, it's gonna cost billions and years to get done. Quite the investment. And, now the Ds want to limit profits for the hated "Big Oil" to something someone like Elizabeth Warren finds acceptable. Because while Ds hate fossil fuels and want to obliterate all uses thereof, they also want them to be cheap and affordable.

For those of you who are not trying to keep score at home, but simply have a rudimentary understanding of economics -- yes, inflation is all still a supply/demand problem. And, yes, you're right, fixing prices doesn't do anything to alleviate that unless you think waiting in line is a good fix. Congrats on at least getting a C- on your Econ 101 final. You've done better The Chairman and The Party.

As you point out, refineries are costly and time intensive. Big Oil only wants to maintain refining capacity, not expand it. Why increase supply and depress prices and profits? We've been at max production for decades.

Talking to a friend of mine who owns several convenience stores in Cali...he says he has been told to start preparing his pumps to accomodate $10 gas...as most pumps can only accomodate up to $9.99...

...very Y2Kish problem coming...either that or start selling gas by the quart...
