    • Price controls are a proven, unassailable tool. Nothing has ever gone south with price controls. Happy the Ds are set to embrace them. It would be laughably stupid to try to increase supply.

      • Re the dreaded Big ____ that numbskulls like Elizabeth Warren blame for everything, they owe a fiduciary duty to shareholders. That’s it. There is a world where companies owe a fiduciary duty to the general public and it’s called socialism — where government decides, on behalf of the people, what’s best for the country. Much like price controls, that always works.

The thing I appreciate about Warren, though, is that she acknowledges, with pride, that she’s a quasi-socialist (full-on in some regards), and doesn’t insult everyone by pretending to be some sort right-leaning conservative concerned about the R party or even a moderate. She proudly wears her Prog tag.

        • Jon, regardless of the argument you chose to advance - big oil is ripping off consumers and that accounts for the high prices at the pump - the point I was making, outside of the argument you advanced which has at least two sides to it, was that the Biden administration is lying about both their intent and their actions wrt Biden's claims he's going to allow more oil and gas leases on federal land.

I really have no interest in debating what is causing rising fuel prices as a means of promoting or assailing capitalism. We both know there are multiple reasons for high oil and LNG prices.

High fossil fuel prices are exactly what most Ds want. This isn’t a bug. It’s what they want. It’s one important way to combat climate change. That’s why, e.g. The Chairman virtue signals limiting supply at nearly every turn.

              • The tone of reporting on the Russian aggression in Ukraine is shifting in multiple sources I'm following. What I can't be sure of is whether reporters actually have a handle on what's going down at the tactical level on the ground. The CRT - a product of the AEI, a well regarded think thank when it comes to balance - seems to agree with the reporting about Ukrainian successes and continuing Russian failures.

The shift I'm seeing is reporting that the Russians are "bogged down" rather than "making progress" in their revised main tactical and political efforts in eastern Ukraine. These include:
                • Tactical encirclement of Ukrainian troops in the cauldron between Izyum and Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. Not happening at all.
                • Tactical and political control of Mariupol and Kherson to ultimately facilitate full control of E Ukraine from Donetsk in the N to Odessa in the SW - the crescent shaped territory boarding the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. The heartland of the Ukrainian economy. Happening but without the necessary military control of key cities, such military control allowing extended political control.
Not achieving these tactical and political objectives due to stiff and well coordinated Ukrainian resistance indicates that achieving Putin's true strategic objective, restoring - either in actual occupation or installation of puppet governments friendly to Moscow, former Soviet Satellite states to the Russian federation, is being thwarted.

IMO, the news of Sweden and Finland applying for NATO membership is sending a clear signal that the west (principally the NATO members) sees Putin's war in Ukraine as a continuation, on a grander scale, to destabilize western Europe and the NATO alliance while simultaneously returning Russia to it's former Imperial status on the global stage by force of arms. The west's response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine - its strategy - has been clearly targeted at stopping Putin from achieving territorial gains in E Europe or installing puppet governments with proxy military forces in those states that now boarder Russia. IOW, he's being outed very publicly.

                • Mass shooting at a Buffalo grocery store kills at least 10. Shooter is an 18 year old that drove from hours away to kill people and live stream it all on the internet. One of the victims was a retired cop who was working as security for the store. Supposedly a "manifesto" was posted online but I haven't gone looking for it yet.

Police have an alleged shooter in custody following what they say was a “mass shooting” at a Buffalo supermarket. Follow here for live news updates.
