I listened to some of Jake Tapper's show driving home yesterday and he had on HR McMaster, Ben Sasse, and Adam Kinzinger and every one of them was allowed to attack Biden at length not just for the manner of the withdrawal, but for continuing Trump's policy of withdrawal, period. Kinzinger was a little less angry than the other two but all pretty much had the same message. We shouldn't even be leaving in the first place.
This is the last chance for the neo-cons and their nation-building enterprise. They will use the excuse of Biden fucking up the evacuation as proof that we need to stay indefinitely. They blame the lack of public support for the war on the public not being informed enough. Poor political leaders, not poor leaders at the Pentagon or State or CIA. I've seen some cite the fact that we've had zero casualties in the past 18 months as proof the cost is low. Well, in Feb 2020 Trump promised the Taliban the country, pretty much, and that we'd leave by May 1, 2021, if the Taliban wouldn't kill our guys. What's going to happen if we break that agreement now? Or if Biden had torn it up a couple months ago? That agreement also allowed Trump to reduce the number of troops in country from over 12,000 to 2,500.
