From my Economist Expresso News Feed:
A federal judge refused to block the ban on evictions covering most of America. A series of moratoriums have protected renters since early in the pandemic but the measures lapsed last month. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention introduced a new ban last week, in response to a surge in cases of the Delta variant. But the Supreme Court is unlikely to support the most recent ban unless it has Congressional approval.
CDC gets bitch slapped again. Slow progress but it is progress in a return to sanity in dealing with the virus. The USSC has been uniform in rejecting baseless COVID mandates.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

This video is reportedly of the Taliban wandering General Dostum's house in Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan. He apparently fled. Dostum's a survivor. He used to be a communist but was one of the most important warlords in overthrowing the Taliban in 2001. He's also very wealthy and corrupt as his house reflects.

Well those who were worried Kabul would fall on the 9/11 anniversary worry no more. Looks like it's happening today.
In the past 24 hours the remaining parts of Afghanistan not controlled by the Taliban are pretty much surrendering without a fight. Including Kabul.

I still think leaving Afghanistan is the right decision but the speed with which the Taliban have retaken the entire country, in basically 10 days, represents a colossal failure by our intelligence agencies and the Pentagon. The abilities of the Afghan military and their desire to stand and fight have been grossly overestimated.
The Taliban were outnumbered at least 3-to-1 by the way, possibly 4 or 5-to-1. Heck I saw one report that the Taliban were even handing out spending money to surrendering soldiers who hadn't gotten paid in months.

The only thing surprising about the Taliban overrunning Afghanistan, is that anyone is surprised. US forces surrendered unconditionally and left. No opposition remained.
Sadly, the executions will begin soon. Anyone who is suspected of assisting the US is on the list.
But Trucker Joe never thought this would happen. Nah ..."in order to lead America you must love America"
