Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. In accordance with the strictures of the 4d news cycle, what was a major story on Monday and Tuesday - "surging" new COVID cases - has become back page news, well not quite back page but it's losing it's punch.
There's a new boogey man out there today even though the fear-monkey narrative about it has been around for a month or longer. Long-COVID. This is where every niggling symptom that is reported to the medical community is now being associated with Long COVID - what happens to you after you catch SARS2 and develop even mild cases of it. I'm not ready to complete ignore it because there is something to it but, of course the press blows any scary part of it way out of proportion to the facts.
It appears to be present in 10-30% (WTF, a pretty big range!) of those who tested positive in the past 16 months for SARS2 infection. The problem is that there is a bewildering number of symptoms being grouped under this diagnosis. One of the things that always bothered me practicing medicine was the community of medical professional's need to categorize and name everything. There are a lot of things in medicine that are unknowable but that doesn't stop MDs and researchers from making lists.
Long COVID is a perfect example. Oh, I have a headache or an itchy or numb area here or there. It must be from catching COVID, right?. The worst one, IMO, is psychosis. OK, sure, that could be a symptom of long COVID but is there any good research to associate causality with that infection? Nope but, yeah, I'm having a bout of it today and can't come to work. I can get paid medical leave for that? Good, I'll be back in 6w......... heads off to Cancun. Fuck that shit.
Anyway, like most COVID news these days coming from TV or your news feeds, be careful with it. Go down the rabbit hole and work to understand what's being reported compared to what's really happening.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Add kitchen appliances to that list of things that have gone up. I tried to buy a new kitchen stove this week, and the prices average $100 higher than pre-pandemic prices. Part of the problem is that stores have no inventory. Whatever they have in stock is priced at top dollar. There are no bargains to be had."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"

Well, look, don't worry. Chairman Joe says the way to beat inflation is to pump $5T into the economy. So, it's just a matter of time before everyone is making way more and paying way less. Chairman Joe has spoken.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Average National Price of gas for roughly the same week of July each year
7/19/2021: $3.25
7/20/2020: $2.27
7/22/2019: $2.83
7/19/2018: $2.94
So if you measure it year-over-year, gas is up 43%
How far is it up from the 2018 price? 10.5%
Hotel rates are up nearly 17% since last year? Sounds like a lot until you discover that hotel rates in most areas are still lower than in 2019
Hotel markets in urban areas face a slower rate of recovery. For travelers, those lower occupancy levels typically mean marked-down room rates.
In the end the stuff that needs to really be watched is food, clothing, appliances. Those numbers aren't as eye-popping as anything related to travel but it's more real imo. Supply issues will continue to plague us because most of our shit is made in East Asia and while things are reopening here, it ain't all hunky-dory over there.
