Please support the Forum by using the Amazon Link this Holiday Season

Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.

Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.

If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!

Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.

Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

There are some other stories that Pelosi called up Northam in Virginia begging for national guard and those got sent over from Arlington and Alexandria fairly quickly. Others called Hogan in Maryland but that request got held up by the Pentagon for some reason and they didn't get released until the Army Secretary personally intervened.

EDIT: My bad, the national guard from Virginia didn't arrive till thursday morning. Northam sent state police too and THEY are the ones who showed up fairly quickly.

      • You can find the answers to a lot of WTF?s by looking at Facebook. I perfectly understand why most of us absolutely despise the forum, but it can be an absolute goldmine as an intelligence asset about how those that have too much time, with nothing better to do than be outraged (almost exclusively boomers and millennials), operate. It’s the best place for people to say ridiculous things without directly confronting their audience. All they see are their supporters and the occasional reckless attempts at calling out their B.S.- for which their whole cult immediately jumps into attack mode. They honestly think that everybody else is cool about what they have to say and that they can make a difference if they carry it over into the real world.

It’s no coincidence that most millennials are the offspring of boomers- and all due respect to those of us here that fall into either category. Regardless of which side we fall on, we all get it.

If you see a lot of footage from inside the Capitol you can't help be struck by how many of them were posing for selfies or other photos. Or stupidly live-streamed the whole thing. We've become a highly performative society.

          • Remember when camcorders first got cheap and every once in a while there'd be a story about teenagers doing crimes and filming themselves the entire time. And you'd say to yourself, how fucking stupid to document yourself committing crimes? And now 40 something grown ass adults do it all the time.

Which is why I advocate blasting the first one to jump through the window. Studies have conclusively shown that when someone gets shot, they stop what they’re doing immediately with near 100% reliability.

              • Facebook sucks, but I understand Tom W's point about it being a goldmine for figuring this shit out.

I always think about how utopian the early days of PCs, then the Internet and now social media were. It was all going to be sunshine and lollypops at each step but then it seems like it gets progressively worse. When people would talk to each face to face, you generally don't talk politics. Make politics boring again.

                • There's a lot to be said for that. I maintain FB only for family reasons. I never, ever make a political comment or "like" anything political (and it's been a challenge w/ the preposterous notion that Left rioters were treated harshly weaseling its way into my TL -- but, again, it helps you sort out where people stand and exactly how ignorant they are).

For that matter, I never make political comments in my job -- which is a poltical office!

I save all my political wisdom for this lot. You lucky fucking bastards.

                  • You can add cable TV to that list as well. Remember how great it was to have 24/7 music videos, Sports AND news?

                      • I remember when cable had to lobby local communities for infrastructure subsidies (meaning additional millage) back in the early 70s.

                          • Wednesday quickly overshadowed the Georgia runoffs but Warnock's lead has grown to over 80,000 votes. Ossoff ahead by about 45,000. Both well outside the range to request a recount.

                              .

It develops discipline. But, it's a daily exercise in restraint to absolutely not go ballistic on people who seem otherwise decent..
