  • I'm not a big Ross Douthat fan but this is an interesting read that I found a free link to. It was first published a couple of days ago in his home pape, the NYTs. We've already had this discussion here about the value of Senator Joe Manchin stop gaping any wild radically progressive ideas from Biden/Harris. Douthat writes about how Biden can blow an opportunity he has to navigate pressures from the progressive left by nominating Cabinet heads like California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Douthat makes a good case of risks associated with naming lawyers instead of scientists and MDs to HHS posts. If you have time, it's short and worth a read.

In many ways Joe Biden will enter the presidency in a politically enviable position. The arrival of the coronavirus vaccine means that, after running as the candidate of normalcy, he is poised to preside over its literal return, which could include not just economic recovery but also a period of personal exuberance — at last, restaurants! amusement parks! vacations! — that will feel much more euphoric than the post-financial-crisis grind did under Barack Obama 12 years ago.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

They won't need Joe Manchin. The Dems will one out of the two runoff seats, at the most.

This will persuade the fool and the gullible, but these are not meritorious arguments, particularly when many of the states on the plaintiff’s side of the lawsuit have done similar things and thus have unclean hands.

The level of debasement these people have been willing to engage in makes them seem more the ball-gagged gimp from Pulp Fiction, humiliating themselves for their master. They should be ashamed and embarrassed.

The bottom line is this — the voters of states must act within their own states and be responsible for their own elections. Texas does not get to dictate the internal affairs of other states particularly when Texas is not directly impacted by a fellow semi-sovereign nation within these united States of America choosing its own members of the Electoral College. The remedy is not the Supreme Court’s intervention on behalf of some sore losers, but challenging the electors in the House of Representatives, which these people know is a fight they will lose. But they already know that is the remedy too.

If Texas were to win this, it would dissolve the horizontal federalism of our union and only expand the powers of the federal government. It would also lead to a Civil War as a handful of states overturn the rules and laws of other states and dictate those states’ internal affairs. Wait for Gavin Newsom and Andrew Cuomo to give this precedent a whirl. Wait for progressive states to start suing conservative states over religious liberty, transgender rights, police brutality, tax policies that “steal” residents of progressive states, etc.
The NRO piece makes some good logical points. They frequently do, although they always operate from the fallacy that our enemies give a shit about the rule of law or logic.

The second piece is utter trash and completely ignores the arguments made in the Texas complaint.

          • The focus in reporting will be on Trump and Israel but this is a diplomatic coup for Morocco.

            • Ohio and Yost have filed a brief opposing the relief being sought by Texas while acknowledging the need for clarification on the Electors Clause.

              This, at least, is reasonable.

but you got 80% of the republican party saying they dont trust the elections

you can debate all day the reasons but when you go to bed and hes up decent t numbers in those 4 battle ground states then you get the pause in the counting due to plumbing issues or were tired lets go home then people go back in and start counting agaain or lost votes then found votes to be capped off by no more allegations of voter fraud on social platforms. well you can see why people cry BS

So if Joes kid drags his dad into the mess he's in--already word Joes brother is involved--Then you throw in bobulinski linking Joe to hunters business deals with china--Anyway the funny thing about all of it is mainstream media is actually covering this story now. ----kinda makes you wonder if this might be a path to president kamala

Despite this, Fox News has a total blackout on the subject. Even Tucker won't touch it for the most part.

                        • A lot of the people attaching their name to the Texas lawsuit are only doing so because they know it will fail. But they also know it will score brownie points with the base.

It's a lot like those 50+ votes to repeal Obamacare. When you know your vote doesn't actually matter, why not virtue-signal? Became a tougher decision when actual stakes were present.

                            • We're at the point where separatist movements called "New Nevada" and "New California" are filing briefs in support of Texas now and asking the Supreme Court to recognize them as states, at least for the purposes of the suit.
