Are the number of cases increasing as a result of more testing? In part, but the case curve is significantly steeper than the testing curve.

There are 62,000 people currently hospitalized. That's a record high. The 7-day moving average isn't quite at a record high yet but it will get there.

Unlike the summer surge which was localized to a handful of Sun Belt states, this one is affecting almost every state in the country. Even with death rates down, deaths are probably going to go beyond that summer peak.

This was contained in article in the Economist on Trump's refusal to concede, why a lot of R's think they have more to gain by sticking with him than abandoning him, what that means and the impact of Trump's on going legal assaults on various state's election officials. I thought this concluding paragraph in the article was thought provoking:

William Kristol, an anxious Never-Trumper conservative, thinks this is the most likely outcome. But he also worries there is a slender possibility of something worse. He asks whether Mr Trump and his allies may yet try a more drastic, anti-democratic move, such as persuading Republican state legislators to ignore voters’ wishes and send electors to the electoral college who would support him instead. That sounds alarmist, but as Mr Kristol writes: “A little alarmism in the defense of liberty is no vice. Complacency in the defense of democracy is not virtue.”

I'm not sure the filibuster is worth much if it can't be used for supreme court picks or judicial picks. The GOP should have gotten rid of it wholesale during the Trump years. Judicial picks are lifetime appointments, there isn't much you can do to remedy a bad pick. Legislation can be remedied by the next general election.

I get that Russiagate was used to undermine and to "not accept" that Trump was President for 4 years. I fully expect a significant number of Republicans to now construct their own narrative with Biden's "fraudulent vote".

But there's a difference between rhetoric and politics and literally blocking a transition. What the GSA and Trump are currently doing is blocking any cooperation with the incoming administration. It's not at the point yet where it's a "crisis" or "dire consequences" but if we're into the middle of next week and Trump still has a blanket order out across the executive branch to not cooperate with Biden's people or allow them an access, then it'll be time for Republicans to find some backbone and say "enough is enough". I've heard the GSA may accept that Biden has won on Friday. We'll see if they stick with that.

Two days after Election Day 2016, Trump and Pence were welcomed at the White House by Obama/Biden. And the margins of that election are going to end up being smaller than 2020.

And FWIW Pat Toomey (R) told Pittsburgh radio tonight that the time has come for the Trump Administration to cooperate with the Biden transition.

PDJT was closer to winning in 2020 than HRC was in 2016. That’s sort of indisputable. To say otherwise is just a lie.

It’s also indisputable that HRC conceded and then proceeded to question the legitimacy of the election for 4 years including as recently as a few weeks ago. And said that Biden to never concede under any circumstances.

PDJT should run through whatever legal options he wants to waste money on and concede. The clock is ticking — once the states certify it’s over. But it’s fucking rich to take lectures from Ds on legitimacy of elections.
