  • Christ, this guy is a moron. Ohio State Rep Nino Vitale (who lives in Urbana) denounces the "DeWine dictatorship". Tells Ohioans to stop getting tested. Says masks are bad for your health and defame God. He's previously appeared with Anti-vaxxer groups.

Meanwhile, Jon appears periodically to scream at the shadows and rage about the general incompetence of PDJT. It's quite the routine and always enjoyable with my morning cup of coffee.

So, I think it worth noting that neither was particularly upset about PDJT going to Mt. Rushmore or what he said there. As we know, they aren't likely to spare us their greivances, and we heard none -- or perhaps they were lost in a sea of Buchanan Dade County Covid analysis.

Anyway, the point is that I just don't get the rage the media is directing at this event. It's the kind of shit that's so demonstrably dishonest and biased that people who aren't PDJT supporters look at it and go, yeah, "Fake News." (https://www.washingtontimes.com/news...t-rushmore-ha/) (or on what he said -- https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/...peech-triumph/ -- heh).

      • This piece from Robert Doar (?) at the NRO gets to a lot of what really bothers me about the current BLM omnibus movement: https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/...hting-poverty/

Essentially, one of the most blindingly obvious FACTS the "movement" ignores and attempts to erase is the massive progress We have made as country. We're not there, yet, but We've come a hell of a long way and are a lot closer to getting there than anyone on that side would ever concede.

They are fundamentally ahistorical -- divorced almost entirely from historical and factual reality. And it the Narrative they spin is truly awful.

It also notes the existing battle between views of on the Government should guarantee -- Equality of Opporunity or Equality of Outcome. I have little doubt the Progressives are going to eventually win that, and once they do, socialism/communism is the ONLY natural outcome.

I don't recall there being anything particularly offensive about the speech. The funny thing is, and Rich Lowry himself pointed it out, that the very next day he tweeted about Bubba Wallace needing to apologize for the noose 'hoax' and that NASCAR make a big mistake banning the Confederate flag. Lowry was frustrated that he drowned out his own message by posting that garbage, which was probably seen by more people than watched his speech late on the Friday night of a holiday weekend.

          • Correct. But, apparently, Mt. Rushmore is horrifically racist and PDJT was defending Confederates (neither is true -- the former a shamefully wrong opinion; the latter a demonstrable lie).

So, you know, I don't get it. Well, I mean, I DO very much get it. I know exactly what "they" are doing. But it's counterproductive.

Fortunately for the Media, PDJT is more counterproductive than they are. Mostly.

I assume I read and see more of Lefty twitter than you do and in reading comments over the past 48 hours about 'canceling' Hamilton I am more persuaded that you guys are wrong and cancel culture has its limits. They will push things too far and the movement, such as it is, will collapse. I've seen a good amount of pushback and from minorities, not white people.

That's not saying much. It's just an example of #CANCELEVERYONETHATIDONTAGREEWITHBUTLEAVEMEALONE. You should be able to recognize a slobbering, crazy mob or what it is before they get to you.

I like Hamilton a lot but fuck 'em. I'll bet that Lin-Manuel Miranda is perfectly fine with every other cancellation going on. Seeing him have to grovel and disown the work that made him famous would be hilarious.

                          • Speaking of stupid messages from Twitter Trump (aka the real Trump), he is now threatening to halt funding for any school that remains closed in the Fall. That's a nice empty threat, Mr. President.

He's trying to turn a very tough decision that should be made at the local level into an up-or-down referendum on his presidency. I think they should do everything possible to open but it's going to be a lot tougher to keep them open in the midst of a pandemic and decisions to close down are not being done solely to spite you, President Deals. I believe there are school systems in the South that would normally be starting school in less than a month.

EDIT: Oh and he followed that up by saying the CDC's guidelines for schools are way too tough and he'll be making sure they're eliminated.

I read a ton of it before I finally deleted my Twitter account last month (what a breath of fresh air!). So, I know what the gist of it is, but I don't where they specifically stand on this issue.

However, I think it's plain that "white guilt" progressives are leading this charge. Or, perhaps more cynically, "white socialists" have co-opted this movement for their own purposes.

When it comes to AAs, I have long said they are NOT some sort of homogenous bloc of interests. They are wildly diverse in ideas just as, you know, white folks. So, within that community it's very easy for me to believe -- and, in fact, I have no doubt -- that the significant majority of AAs find this "Woke" virtue-signaling mostly bullshit and pointless. What they would like is, you know, actual reforms that stop their fucking children from being shot in the fucking streets or that get them a real fucking grocery store somewhere remotely close to where they live. Real life shit.

We all know that knocking down a statute or changing a team nickname won't help anyone. I mean, if we could cure all that ails us by doing that then I'm all in. But it's empty bullshit.

The people who are driving that movement are the Woke White fucks who, IMO, very much want to remake America. I hope you're right. I hope that AAs (and other sensible, sentient Americans) tell them to fuck the fuck off and help with real reforms. I tend to think it will collapse from overreach, but man, I'm not as sure as you. I think it's really close. I think that for now it goes on unabated because this election is so tribal there's no talking out of turn. Maybe after November.

                              • I could be wrong, but I think what Trump is trying to say with the confederate flag issue is that it is a form of free speech to display it, even if we find that speech offensive.

Just like the courts have ruled that burning the US flag is a constitutionally protected form of free speech, even though millions of people, of all races and genders find that act offensive.

Personally I would do neither, but if we're going to have freedom of speech in this country, it must go both ways, even if some of us consider it offensive, and it needs to be protected by the law.

If anything, NASCAR's actions have probably caused an uptick in the sales of confederate flags.
