I think we here in Michigan did a pretty good job. I think the bulk of the credit for the slowing down of the virus goes to the citizens who actually practiced social distancing, masking, etc. What will happen is, Whitmer will break her arm, patting herself on the back for issuing her numerous executive orders, some of which have been correctly tamped-down by the MSC.

She needs to return Michigan to democracy. I realize she and Nessie absolutely loathe the Republicans in the legislature, but she has to find a way to work with them. She was not elected as dictator. She was elected Governor. If she is so much better than Trump as a person, and as a politician, she needs to show it in her actions. Right now, she's the Dem version of Trump.

Not to disagree, but even in a pre George Floyd world why would you not call the FBI in to investigate a potential hate crime?

Because nobody was actually physically harmed? Because those fifteen agents would have been more sensibly deployed trying to catch serial killers, shut down drug smuggling, breaking organized crime, or rooting out terrorists? Or are those not a threat anymore?

We had to either reopen up to the "too far" point, or we had to wait until a vaccine showed up to ever reopen. That assumes that a vaccine is ever going to show up. The whole point of "Flatten the Curve" was to keep the ICUs and ERs manageable, not to quarantine the virus into extinction. Or so we were told.

Once again, it's curious that bars are the problem, but masses of thousands of people marching in the streets for the Communist organization "Black Lives Matter" isn't. I swear, it's almost as if there is an agenda at play here.

Its more important to investigate non crimes like Smollet and Wallace, than it is to solve actual crimes.

If you solve actual crimes, you run the risk of discovering they were committed by minorities, which is a result that can no longer be tolerated.

It's been 4 weeks, at least, since protests started in NYC. If your theory was correct, that protests are just as likely spreading covid as people drinking in crowded bars, then there should have been a major rise in cases there by now. There's hasn't been. It doesn't take a major leap in logic to think that being in an enclosed space with lots of other people, without a mask, as you consume a substance that lowers your immunity, is riskier than attending a public protest outdoors while wearing a mask. Not that the protest is a wildly smart idea either.

It might make some sense with the protests being outdoors, but that goes against whatever logic was used to close down beaches and public parks, all of which are far safer from a virus spreading standpoint than a march with 5,000 people standing shoulder to shoulder chanting or throwing Molotov cocktails, or doing whatever it is they are doing. FFS outdoor pools are still only open at half capacity here in Ohio. BLM protests are literally the only gatherings that are safe to attend.

FTR I'm all for closing down bars or enforcing masks/social distancing via lower capacity in this case. The data does seem to support it (although deaths have fallen significantly) .

1) The current surge is taking place almost everywhere now but the places being hit the hardest are those that got off lightly back in April.

2) It's probably not a coincidence that cases started climbing at the same time that southern heat causes people to spend the majority of their day indoors.

3) It's probably not a coincidence that cases started climbing once shutdowns were over. Everyone expected that.

4) The protests could be contributing to the spread but again, are they a primary factor? Cases aren't spiking in NYC or Seattle the way they are in, say, Orlando and Houston. Maybe certain northern cities just had more immunity. Who knows.

We're going to have to go to "masks-only" for establishments that want to remain open.

Ohio is still clearly manageable, but if/when it creeps up over 1000 per day then there will be some mitigation strategy.

Unrelated but Microsoft announced they are permanently closing all of its stores except for 4 locations. About a 100 or so stores. They were a decade-long experiment to try and copy the success of Apple Stores that never really caught on.

The Associated Press reported that an unnamed man in Vienna, Austria, was hit with a 500 euro ($565) fine for "offending public decency" when he broke wind following an encounter with police on June 5. Authorities said that "of course no one is reported for accidentally 'letting one go,'" but after behaving "provocatively and uncooperatively," the man rose from a bench and "let go a massive intestinal wind apparently with full intent.
