I'm getting a little nervous about the total cases. Would really like to know how much testing is happening. They seem a little questionable particularly when I compare with Indiana, who has almost 1,000 more known cases than us now. Marion County (Indianapolis) has reported more cases than Cuyahoga, Franklin, and Hamilton counties combined. As far as I know Indiana instituted similar measures to us right around the same time.

EDIT: "nervous" is the wrong word. Obviously if there are more cases than presently known, that'd be a good thing. It'd mean the mortality rate is lower than the current 3.5% -- hopefully much lower.

Also, I think these numbers are still so relatively low that one big outbreak point can skew numbers. Ohio seems to avoided a huge outbreak center. M, obviously, did not. I'd imagine the longer this plays out the more it regresses to the mean.

The SBA "loan" program through the banks turns out to be a boon to businesses that have kept operating. For example, I know a dairy owner who has about 100 employees. He is in full operation but met the qualifications for the "loan". His payroll is about $ 200,000.00/month (for two months) plus up to 25% of payroll for other things like fringe benefits and interest. He will get a windfall of $ 500,000.00.

It seems our genius legislators forgot to condition the "loan" (in quotes because it is to be forgiven) on ceasing operations.

I hear the Treasury is asking for an additional $ 250B for the program.

Thanks. Is there a place where that data is posted all in one spot? Or did you grab it from multiple sources? Been trying to find the test info and failing. Hadn't considered Indy as a convention city and that could explain the difference.

Here's Brit Hume repeating the argument that he was making last week about how the deaths from COVID-19 are actually, in his opinion, highly overstated. If you live with diabetes for 20 years, then catch COVID-19, and then die, in Brit's highly educated medical opinion you died of diabetes. This is an argument gaining traction in rightwing media because they know they are eventually no longer going to be able to say more people died under Obama from H1N1. So the only option left is to call the very numbers into question and insist doctors and hospitals around the country are inept or lying -- you can trust that Brit Hume and Tucker know the truth.

He also says it's very questionable that social distancing made any difference at all. It's just as likely, in his opinion, that this disease was no big deal in the first place.

He also compares living with prostate cancer to living with coronavirus, which is...wildly ignorant to say the least. Most of the people who die from prostate cancer have lived years and years after their initial diagnosis. Most of the people who die from COVID-19 die 2 or 3 weeks after diagnosis. Sometimes less.

And yeah...I know I probably shouldn't care what these bozos say. But this wildly ignorant misinformation, which encourages viewers to ignore or mistrust what their doctors tell them, bothers me far more than a prog reporter asking Trump a "gotcha" question. That's my biased opinion.

I have lost all my appetite for politics. I haven't watched any of the national news in nearly a month. Not Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, .. none of them.

I even stopped watching local news because they were dragging politics into the discussions.

My hope and prayer is that not one more single soul gets this disease from this moment on, and not one single soul dies from it from this moment on. I don't care about their politics.

Today, our local health department started putting RECOVERIES on their daily status report. We're up to seven (7) out of 25 diagnosed in our county. Thank God for the recoveries.

If the MEDIA were only about "gotcha" questions then I wouldn't give a fuck. But it doesn't end there. The media has there numerous false and/or grossly misleading narratives that all focus on "PDJT AWFUL!" or "America Institutions are Failing and Awful". I can watch FOX for 20 minutes and get exactly what narratives they're pushing. In fact, I even did (to prove a point to my wife). They had a trivial story ostensibly about religious freedom but mostly angled at making sure the religious folks knew that their religion is hugely important but don't blame PDJT for shutting down services because there's almost no choice. They then pushed hard on the China travel "ban" and media/D reactions thereto. Got it.

What stuns me is your outright fucking mockery of the flip side of the coin -- that the vast majority of other media outlets do the same or similar things. And it just so happens that MSNBC, NBC, CNN, NYT, WaPo, CBS and ABC are all in the tank for the left (some more than others, but all are far past dipping their toe in the water). FFS, NBC continues to compare the US to China. Not MSNBC - NBC.

I guarantee you that one narrative that will come out of this is how RACIST the US is because, well, the US is an irredeemably racist, awful country. So the narrative that will be pimped is how black folks -- ooops "brown people" are more likely to die from corona than whiteys. That's a story that you have to go looking for to confirm your bias, your world view -- and the media absolutely will. Others are easier to find and at least germane to corona, but will be pimped with cherry-picked facts. I can guarantee you that our entire hospital system will be under indictment because it ain't socialist. Remember the "NO VENTILATORS!!!" screaming? That's why Cuomo saying everyone is getting care is so fucking critical (and will be ignored). But, but...KISS THE RING! I also think the treatment of hydrochloroquine (by both sides) has been largely motivated by bias. FOX pimps it because PDJT oversells it. But, man, reading stories from the rest of the media one would think it's fucking poison.

In any event, I certainly like to think I can discern when FOX is selling a narrative. I also think I can discern when Sinclair is pimping a narrative (since they control so many local stations). I also like to think I can figure otu when there is a spot for legitimate criticism of the US, Federal Gov't, State Gov't, etc. But, I don't come at it from the perspective that the US is a total shit country fucked by racism and capitalism. You don't either. You're fucking smart enough to at least detect SOME of the bullshit coming from your side. Ohio has yet to start posting recoveries. I know of at least 1 because the dude was on the 10pm news (pilot from Xenia). It's much more comforting to get a big dose of recoveries with the bad news re deaths. I wonder if one of the reasons it takes so long is that you have to go so long and get tested so often before you're finally cleared -- that is, a recovery is when you can get back out into the world again. People may be fine for awhile but still have residual virus in their body.
