  • One couple decided not to waste the Taal volcano as a wedding back drop. Whats wild is the time lapse video at the end of the story that shows the lightning display a volcano produces.

The eruption of the Taal volcano didn't stop one Philippine couple going ahead with their wedding.

    • Yesterday's news but the Mullahs are again forced to deal with the very public defection of the country's only Olympic medalist. Kimia Alizadeh, has announced that she's permanently left her country for Europe.

"Let me start with a greeting, a farewell or condolences," the 21-year-old wrote in an Instagram post explaining why she was defecting. "I am one of the millions of oppressed women in Iran who they have been playing with for years." Alizadeh became the first Iranian woman to win an Olympic medal after claiming bronze in the 57kg category of Taekwondo at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The link is an interesting depiction of life in the Islamic republic for women. I'm with Jon's post above. Nation building is an antediluvian foreign policy but, I think it important to expose the abuses of Islamic Theocracies as well as pointing to the massive failures of the socialist economies prevalent in these governments that have gained a foothold in the ME. The PLO and Hezbollah in Lebanon as well as Assad's Syria are classic failures to govern using socialist principals. Not only that but Islam, as it is being utilized by these specific governments as a means of governing and administering civil order and justice fails at the hands of corrupt religious leadership who maintain power by brutality and suppression of dissent.

So, democracy, free markets, minimalist government. For centuries it has produced governments of the people and for the people living well within vibrant economies that reward individualism, self sufficiency and hard work. I'm for it.

        Spot on.

On some campuses -- and more than just one or two -- that line of thought is disgustingly Euro-centric and reveals a metric fuckton of implict biases.

        But, again, spot fucking on.

BTW Jeff, Israel has been a socialist country for most of its existence. And I believe it's still probably as far left as most of Europe.

            • ABC/Ipsos poll conducted entirely on Friday-Saturday last week. So days after Iran bombed the bases in Iraq and shot down the airline.

56% disapprove of how Trump is handling Iran. Only 25% say the US is now more safe thanks to killing Soleimani. Shoot, only 54% of Republicans think we're "safer"

              • There was no way that poll would turn out any different with the absolute hysterics in the media -- all wrong.

We'll see where this in a month or two months.

If you mean Social Democracies like Sweden and Denmark, yes. Like Iran or socialist economies and politics dominated Lebanon or the PLO's West Bank, no.

I'll give you before 1980, Israel was pretty "socialist." After that, economic reforms modified a whole lot of that shit there.

                    so wait.... no WWIII???

We didn't "assassinate" a "revered government official" but in reality killed a murderous terrorist leader while he was on foreign soil plotting upcoming terror attacks on Americans and American facilities?? Boy, that CNN is full of shit.

And even more to CNN's chagrin, Iranian citizens are revolting against their mullahs, making them nervous enough to send out their goons to fire tear gas and live ammunition at them. They're even refusing to participate in one of the country's favorite traditions of walking on a sidewalk emblazoned with the US and Israeli flags. They're chanting "Our Leaders Are Murderers".

What's going on here? Who do the Iranian protesters think they are? Cory Booker supporters?

Edit: .. Maybe Iranians will start wearing MIGA hats ... Make Iran Great Again ....

                      • Warren going all in on accusing Bernie of telling her a woman can't beat Trump. Night before the final debate before Iowa. This time not just whispering it to the press but putting out a full statement, with her name attached.

                        • The Iowa polls are constantly shifting but a top pollster had good news for Biden today. He generally has not been in the lead there.

                          • White House increasingly believes there are enough Republican defectors to force the Senate to call witnesses. Romney, Collins, Murkowski, and possibly the very-endangered Gardner. Also throw in Rand Paul and a don't-give-a-fuck Lamar Alexander as wild cards.

As for Trump's new demand that the Articles be dismissed immediately upon arrival, there's way more pushback on that. People like Cornyn speaking out against that idea

                            • There won't be an immediate dismissal, no matter how much Trump hollers for it. McConnell is going to stretch this thing out for a few weeks, if for nothing more than to take all the senators running for president off the trail for a while. Bootygig probably loves that idea.

I don't see how 'witnesses' are going to help the Dems. Witnesses lie or tell the truth. The truth nowadays depends on your party affiliation.

You'd have a better chance of getting 67 senators to agree that the sun rises in the West, than to agree on what the 'truth' is.

There will be no conviction, and life will go on.

                              • lol...this is some hack shit from Lev Parnas' defense attorney. But it still makes me reflect how on earth this guy got this level of access. How much money was he throwing around?? Sitting directly next to Trump at some event? Sitting in Pete Sessions' chair on the House Rules Committee and holding his gavel? LOL
