  • Froot, unlike is #hawttakes on Ryan Day, is correct on this. The House would have a hard time passing a lot of the genuinely Progressive/Communist shit, and there's zero fucking chance of it getting past the Senate unless they remove the legislative filibuster and even then...no. And, I doubt some of it even gets proposed because it won't even pass the House because the Ds want to retain the House and voting for some of that shit is the equivalent of a white flag in the purple districts they need to win.

So, yes, in my last two posts I've concurred with DSL and Froot. Fuck me sideways.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

I guess we'll see, Froot ...... I think it's too hard to predict with any accuracy who will be the next president right now. Equally hard to determine what a Congress with a Warren presidency might undertake. If Trump survives this thing he's facing with Ukraine he'll be competitive with any of the Warren crowd, probably not Biden, but Joe doesn't always know where he is so, there is that. He'll also be unpleasantly combative come late July - shouting about his first term accomplishments and the socialism his D opponents will bring ..... and he'll be mostly right about that. If a trade deal with China comes to pass, even if it's light on Chinese concessions that the US has sought, the economy should be solid. He's not going to get chased out of office on that front.

Immigration is another winning issue for him. Lots of libs probably secretly, not at their elite cocktail parties, like what's going on here...... preserving the light skinned, well educated yellow and darker skinned majority and keeping the browns, poorly educated blacks out of their neighborhoods and schools; they do like them for garbage collection, pool cleaning, mowing lawns and serving them when they go out to eat though.

Clearly, Trump's made a mess of the process if you look at it through the liberal lens, but damn, I saw a piece a couple of days ago, intended to highlight the terrible things happening to "the (immigrant) children" that flat out demonstrated, big time, how illegal crossings have dropped dramatically from May (their record highs) to September (near record lows). In the same piece, begrudging credit was given to the Trump administration in achieving that..... but, "the children." Oh, and don't forget that immigrants who have to remain in Mexico or El Salvador aren't safe and, of course, the US should take care of all this by shoveling money into jobs programs there according to the former Mayor of San Antonio and D presidential candidate, Julian Castro. GTFO. Yes, I know. It's cruel but sometimes tough measures are called for when folks do illegal things. The law and all that.

I don't know where you get the idea that I'm a Fox or MSNBC news hound. I rarely watch those networks unless I want to check in and get a laugh or two. I hear the first laughable story and I switch channels. There's plenty of places were fair and balanced is available in web based media, e.g., for the ME news, Al Jazeera, for Europe and Asia, Reuters and if you want to read clearly written pieces about US politics, the BBC. The Brits write well and have no axes to grind. That helps. Fox is terrible and as long as Rupert is in charge, that won't change. MSNBC is a bit better but then there is Morning Joe. I'm more a conservative lite version of Hannibal and talent but with a social conscience significantly less influential in my political views than that of woke DSL. Heh.

            • Immigration has repeatedly been shown to be a losing issue for Trump among the suburban swing voters he will need, particularly women. It was practically the only thing Trump ranted about leading up to the midterms and we see how that turned out (Remember the daily updates on Fox about the "Caravan" coming to storm the border?)

It's a base-rallying issue. It is NOT an issue that's proven to convert people to his side.

              • Liberal cocktail parties is a standard Fox News trope. They sound cool but really rare.

I don't have the polling data, DSL but my sense is that, like the poll I took from the MSNBC which you noted gets run at by Trumpsters most likely to think Pelosi acted unethically, when asked, liberals who may or may not be over-represented in whatever polls you are referring to that show Immigration is a losing issue for trump suffer from the same kind of bias, right? It also depends on how the questions about immigration are phrased.

Granted, while immigration may be THE top issue in the 2020 election and liberals in general favor pathways for citizenship for illegals already in the country while certain groups of conservative Rs are for severely limiting that sort of thing, if you ask about illegal boarder crossings - the place where I started - there is no credible cohort, except that comprised of some real whackos, saying that open boarders are OK.

No Open boarders. That's a winning issue for Trump. Moreover, I was very clear that Trump has made a mess of the process of reducing illegal immigration with some of his policies - rightfully and easily attacked by his political opponents. But the bottom line is that Trump believes in what he is doing and will continue to do it for 2020 (if he's still around). It will be an important issue for his base and has the potential of garnering support from moderate D's - esp. on the no open boarders and/or any hint of policies allowing automatic citizenship - providing he doesn't fuck up the optics - which he will probably do.

                  • Froot, if it's a Fox trope, my use of it didn't come from there. I think the thinking about the elite left's repartee at parties not reflective of their true views on these matters, involved a discussion here of forced school integration and/or performance leveling. It's an oft advanced policy of the libs and endorsed in public settings by the left but oft scorned in private ...... mainly for the reasons I jokingly referred to that are not at all reflective of my views. But, they are probably reflective of casual social conversations among many Liberal East and West coasters who tout this kind of social justice except NIMBY.

                      • What does the Elite Right talk about at parties?

Anyways, there's plenty of right-wing NIMBYism too. Like the rich coastal conservatives who fought to keep off-shore drilling banned in Florida, lest their seaside views be ruined, or these ladies down in Texas who were for the Wall until being told it was planned to literally divide their country-club neighborhood in half.

                        • This article not intended to poo-poo the economy, but show the damage Trump's trade wars are doing to Agriculture.

Nearly 40% of all income farmers will receive in 2019 is either federal handouts or insurance for failed crops

And the number of farms going bankrupt just surged 24% over last year, the past 12 months being the worst period for farmers since 2011.

The president filed a “declaration of domicile” last month saying that his property in Palm Beach will be his permanent residence.

Well, this is a pretty diverse group of fairly smart people. I don't think any of us would think not talking about pedophilia, for example, is an approach that will make it go away. Getting this kind of stuff into the open is what will take a step forward in eradicating it.
