    • Back in college we used to see that laugh at the Wayne Allyn Root guy on TV when he would be on that handicappers show on FNN. Truly a grifter no wonder why Trump and the MAGA crowd are attracted to him. The star of that network was Todd Donahoe and his show "Time Out for Trivia".

The absurd thing about Root was he would wear suits and have his hair in a ponytail.

        • It's too bad that voter polling shows that the economy is not in the top 5 things voters are concerned about. Health care is #1 and the US economy is actually pretty good by most measures. However, how voters believe the HC system should be reformed is hugely divergent and highly dependent on how questions in a poll are phrased. This is worth a speed read to lend some depth to your understanding of how the two parties view this issue.

Back to the economy ...... Trump has claimed the stock market would be 10,000 points higher if he had not confronted China which, he goes on to say, was absolutely required implying previous administrations were pussies. Here's a guy who manages an investment firm that advises almost strictly on market technicals and probabilities that he will gladly sell you for the price of a subscription.

Two things: Trump has a huge incentive to make a deal with the Chinese and "huge" is an understatement when it comes to HIS perception of his re-electibility. The problem for him is that the economy, even though the markets are not a great indicator of it's strength or weakness, are not likely to change the polling trends we're seeing. Consumers can feel good about consuming, and they will when the news of a continued bull market is hammered down their throats in the coming months while the rising value of their 401Ks contribute to their wealth perception, it looks more and more like Trump is so strongly disliked that he will not get re-elected and a D will succeed him.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Klobuchar-Biden has a nice ring to it....

It's nice to remind folks that the Ds have a really nice anti-semitic vein to the party led by at least half of the much ballyhooed "Squad". And it may even work politically. As a message, it's ridiculous as the vast majority of Ds condemn the outlandish BDS movement.

I guess. Incumbents normally get re-elected so they can't nominate a bad candidate but this incumbent is not strong and his election was on a very narrow path. He consistently polled between 40 and 43 percent and got the late deciders to go his way and he had the enthusiasm edge. Its hard to see that happening in 2020 and he's trying to run the same playbook.

He's in a much worse position than George W Bush was in 2004 with similar electoral circumstances. W did the legwork Trump is unable to do.

It's not a dual loyalty point. It's a "you must vote this way because you're [fill in race/religion/gender]" point.

                          To reiterate my own opinion:

                              • I think you're right that he IS trying to woo Jewish voters with the whole "look at how nice I am to Israel" stuff. He went through a laundry list of things that supposedly proves no President has ever come close to being as good for Israel as he is. And maybe he just expressed himself in the most stupid and bumbling way possible. And now he doubles down as usual.

The problem is that he, and frankly many in the Republican Party, are under the assumption that Jewish voters are one-issue voters and you ought to be able to win them over by selling guns to Israel. Anyone who actually believes that is implying pretty heavily that American Jews, when push comes to shove, care more about Israel than the United States. And I get why a lot of Jews, the large majority of them in fact, would be offended or at least troubled by anyone expressing that.

On your last point, the chickens have finally started coming home to roost for him, but Steve King got away with a lot of ugliness for two decades. It's not precisely the same thing but...
