        • When Trump speaks like an actual Presidential man, he always gets high approval ratings. It makes me wonder what he could have accomplished with his four years if he had better judgement about what fights to pick and what Tweets to send out.

I like the anti-Socialist rhetoric but when the history books are written, Trump's accomplishments will essentially boil down to rhetoric. Everyone gets elected with a bag of political capital to spare and Trump squandered his on a tax cut that was at the bottom of the priority list for the people who voted for him, tariffs that offset the benefits of tax cuts, and dumbass tweets. Now that the Democrats are in control of Congress, he has no chance of getting wall funding, which was by far his greatest shot at not only reelection, but a permanent accomplishment that can't be erased by the stroke of a pen. All of his Executive Orders can be undone and taxes will likely be restored to their previous levels at some point soon. The next President will re-neuter ICE and set us back onto the path of being an open borders feeding trough.

In most cases I would completely discount the value of just rhetoric, but in our case, we desperately needed a leader to mobilize opposition to the Left. Trump has sparked a long overdue awakening to and opposition to the mainstream Liberal orthodoxy that most people do not appreciate the value of. I just wish that we weren't so close to the Dems being able to run out the clock.

          • Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

As a policy matter, I think you undervalue anti-socialist sentiment in the US. I think the Rs were generally able to stem the tide and even retake some ground over the past 30 years. It's to the point where they have to trojan horse shit under the guise of "social" "justice" and other bullshit. But, at bottom socialist economic policies play like shit in the suburbs. And people's votes aren't intractably decided when they're 21. They shift with their interests. And when they get to the suburbs then they may switch. A key is making sure that we're still growing in a way that keeps that pipeline alive.

I certainly appreciate the pushback against the Orwellian Orthodoxy of the Progressive Socialists. But, that's a lost cause as a matter of politics. The only real victories are where the Orwellians take 5 steps instead of just 1 and, e.g., pillory a high school kid for a facial expression. But, economics is still very much in play. And Progressive Socialists are going to massively overplay their hand. They'll still win in 2020, but you they are going to get smacked in 2022.

I realize, of course, that you're a demographics is destiny guy. We part ways on that.

              • I disagree that tax cuts were at the bottom of the list. Certainly the economy was near the top of most people's and that seems to be roaring.

I would like to see Trump go from here to 2020 and be the president we saw last night. He does that, he wins easily. Instead he won't and will win by the skin of his teeth and only because the left has become a party of radicals that could not be seen applauding the idea of not killing babies on their due dates.

                • We agree that there is absolutely zero chance that PDJT will sustain "Presidential" for more than 24 hours, let alone 21 months.

                  • he managed to do it for the two weeks leading into the 2016 election. i pictured him about ready to pop for not being able to tweet up a storm, i don't think he could go longer than 2 weeks max.

                    • The shame of it is that if he could just STFU he could give the Progressive Socialists the stage -- the full, undivided stage. That's a total win for him. More them; less him.

It seems as tho who the country is focused on damages that party. When the Access Hollywood tape came out, everyone was focused on Trump and his poll numbers sucked. When Comey reopened the investigation into Hillary, the focus shifted to her, and her poll numbers dropped.

The public was focused on how the dems treated Kavanaugh, the dems poll numbers went way down. That issue was far enough away from the midterms as to not effect the math one bit. The focus on the week leading up to 2018 was crazy Trump supporter mail bomber and White supremacist shooting up the Pittsburgh synagogue.

Kind of a weird thing. the key to getting elected is stfu and blend in with the curtains.

For the most part I agree with all of this. It's a particularly American form of stupidity for Bernie and AOC and that crowd to call themselves socialist, because their policies are not actually socialist. They're not proposing nationalizing industries or a non-market economy. They call themselves socialists nonetheless.

We'll see about the latter half of that graf tho. The economic debate the kids are getting is different than the one we got. They're coming up in a different time. They may have an appetite for a form of capitalism that they call socialist. The rest of us might have to try it out and could actually discover that we like it, as people have with Obamacare. All outcomes are in play IMO.
