I think I brought this up once or twice before but the California primary has been moved up to March 3 (it used to be held in June). Only 4 states go before them. That's going to make California far more important than it's typically been in the past

Yep. That helps establishment Dems because California has SEVERAL very expensive media markets. This means that you have to have a well funded campaign to run there, so that will cut down (a lot) of an insurgent like Sen Sanders in 2016 to pose a threat coming out of the woodwork. Sen Harris will have a big advantage in name recognition there. That being said a well funded progressive campaign (looking at you Sen Sanders and Sen Warren) could win there. Sen Harris is going to have to answer about her stands back when she was a prosecutor and AG in California. She will also have to show well in Iowa and New Hampshire.
