Apparently Trump told the group of tv anchors he had in for lunch that he considered this speech tonight to be totally pointless. His trip to the border on thursday? The same. But his aides talked him into both.

They applied extra skepticism to her is what they did. As has the WaPo three days in a row. She's manna from heaven for media in their quest to convince conservatives they aren't biased. The WaPo fails every day to point out that $5bn for the wall is only going to pay for 20% of the wall, per Trump's own numbers, but suddenly they can get all worried about the numbers when there's a chance to convince people who aren't listening anymore that they should listen.
