Bush declared 13 national emergencies, 0bama declared 12, almost all of which are still currently active today.
Clinton declared 17, 6 are currently still active.

Amen. Mueller needs to quickly pull the rug out from underneath that treasonous grifter.

So speculate on what the content of tonight's speech will be. Will it be 's Nixonian address? "I am not a blithering idiot." (Yes, you are.) That would have entertainment value but I simply expect a bunch of easily debunked fantasies/lies spoken to pander to the base. Trump continues to debase American values, act counter to American interests and repeatedly humiliate this nation on the public stage. His puppet master Putin must be very proud.

      • I won't be watching Trump's address tonight.

The whole wall thing. It's gotten ridiculous.

I briefly tuned in to Amanpour's segment on PBS last night. Her guest was a Trump spokesperson - the bald guy who was a Trump campaign fellow - whom she wanted to do a Chris Wallace type hammering, like Wallace did to Baghdad Sarah. He was way better and completely up to the task. His main point was that the Southern boarder is an immigration problem and has been for decades. The wall would have a positive impact at selected points along the Southern border he said and Boarder Patrol agents who work the boarder have said as much.

The thing is certainly symbolic in a negative sort of way but it fundamentally would help limit illegal immigration. No one is seeing this in that light and Trump is as much to blame for that as are his political opponents. The two sides are getting farther and farther apart with dumb statements coming from both sides. The stalemate is stupid. It's hurting federal workers who have been laid off or are working without pay. The list of bad things happening because of it is growing.

In that it is fundamentally a reasonable thing to do to help mitigate illegal immigration, Congress should get off their dead asses and fund it. The nonsense needs to stop.

        • The Russian lawyer who met with Don Jr. and Kushner in Trump Tower has been indicted on obstruction charges in an unrelated matter (but does have connections to the murder of Sergei Magnitsky). The indictment does establish that she has for a long while worked closely with the Russian government and represented its interests.

Prosecutors filed the Prevezon case in 2013 seeking to recover several million dollars worth of property, including New York real estate, alleging money laundering from the proceeds of the tax fraud scheme.

In 2014, the Russian government sent a report from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office containing investigative findings that purported to exonerate Russian government personnel. In 2014, Veselnitskaya gave the court a declaration with the report attached saying that she obtained a copy after going to great lengths, including filing a court order.

              • Stop the whataboutism. That is some serious shit right there having nothing to do with Don Jr., I might add, but damn, the prosecutors are earning their keep.

                    • Interesting reporting on the feeling among congressional R's. As moderate Republicans defect, the remaining Republicans (knowing they can't win through legislation) increasing favor the "national emergency" route. They know it will be immediately be challenged in court and will probably ultimately lose, but at least it will look like they're doing something

                        • after nafta treaties, nato ponyups, tearing up of the iran deal, and trade renogiations are you rally surprised trump is taking up an issue that has to do with protecting americans wealth

illegal aliens are over 100,000 a year totalling 13 million or so--and no I don't believe the teroorist bs but I do believe the crime aspect

                          problem is its dangerous

                          many are trafficking for gangs

                          many are prostituted

many commit crimes--see stats for texas for instance

I believe in immigration but do it the right way. the thousands that don't are taxing ice-- taxing social benefits from those who are already legally here-- and taxing our medical and education systems.

do it the right way. the more fence the better --channel them to areas where they can be monitored and enter legally

amazing how many dems were for a fence when cliniton built it in sandiego 325 miles long

                              • If the wall was/is so important, then why didn't the GOP (in control of all three branches 2017-18) fund it?

BECAUSE IT ISN'T NECESSARY AND WOULD NOT BE EFFECTIVE.

Why is the wall suddenly important now?

BECAUSE ANN COULTER SAID SHE WOULD BADMOUTH TRUMP TO THE BASE IF HE DIDN'T GET ONE. BECAUSE LINDSEY GRAHMAN SAID IT WOULD BE THE END OF HIS PRESIDENCY IF HE DIDN'T GET ONE.

Can and should border security be improved?

YES AND WITHOUT AN UNNEEDED WALL.

Since the Senate near unanimously passed legislation to fund the gov't without a wall, why won't Mitchell bring the legislation to the Senate floor?

BECAUSE IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO LICK TRUMP'S ASS THAN IT IS TO REPRESENT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE PLUS OVERRIDING TRUMP'S VETO WOULD MAKE HIM LOOK BAD.

Why would Trump declare a phony 'national emergency' that is doomed to legal failure?

BECAUSE OPTICS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN NATIONAL SECURITY.

Doesn't Trump realize his shutdown is hurting people?

FUCK THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE LAID OFF. ITS ALL ABOUT TRUMP.
