And DSL reacted with his usual "much racism" retardation. Any time people like you and DSL want to discuss these facs, I'd love to.
If you can't even talk about the basics without the strawman crutch that helps you avoid listening to others' opinions, how can you reasonably expect to have a discussion about more complex factors? Start with the basics. I've said it multiple times before, but, again, sane policy is tied to merit, as AA has just said. There's no reason for you to assume what DSL or I think when we're here, willing to answer the question, and actually have before multiple times in this thread. We could have a discussion about what's a reasonable slate of standards there, but that would require you acknowledging that we already have a merit-based process for immigration, and that the policy debate isn't about the silly caricatured environment you've described, but about how to adjust the existing standards in ways that make sense.

The number of people who come in via asylum is relatively small compared with the rest. Less than 30,000 a year fr the past 15 years (asylum claims peaked right before 9/11)

Yes, and to get around those requirements millions have come in illegally. Once here illegally, many on the Left take a position of, "Ohh, let them stay!"

      • Sorry, I did forget the general "diversity lottery". Like asylum that's a relatively minor portion of all immigration (about 5%). No 'skill' is involved in that either but depending on the country you're coming from, there's an enormous waiting list. Places like Mexico or China have something like 20-year waiting lists. Liechtenstein, come right in.

Many right-wing dairy farmers across the Midwest have the same position.

          • As for the rest of it, well, no shit. It's not hard to acknowledge that migrant workers are a product of their home environment. In a quality discussion on the topic, instead of one driven by fear and ignorance, this is some serious food for thought. It might actually be good to have more people here who actually understand the value of education and security, and aren't so dedicated to relentlessly squandering the opportunity that living in America affords them.

                • LMAO at the US has "merit-based immigration". If we had merit based immigration then most of our immigrants would still come from countries with high literacy rates and higher economic means, which is precisely how it was before Hart-Cellar. They would also not be on welfare at wildly disproportionate rates. LMAO at "they are required to speak English" too. If that were the case then half of the country wouldn't have bilingually printed signs and English wouldn't be the second language in South Texas and Southern California. But pointing that out is racist, amirite?

And it's pointless to argue what the actual legal system is anyways, because there is no enforcement. There are numerous large sanctuary cities, legal groups that advise immigrants on how to dodge US laws, caravans that march for a thousand miles with the openly expressed intent of violating our immigration laws, pamphlets that were printed by the Mexican government advising their citizens how to sneak into the country scholarships for illegal immigrants, no physical constraints on the border, no meaningful punishments of small employers who break the law, and no meaningful deterrents to entering illegally, Any attempt whatsoever to change these conditions is met with cries of "Nazi" and screeches of protest. The Democrats are comparing ICE to the KKK and comparing Guatemalan refugees to Jews fleeing Nazi Germany. Not only is there no enforcement, but there is no desire for enforcement by the Left, which has made its aims of demographic replacement clear.

Sure. The solution is not a wall. The solution is a combo of seasonal work visas and severe punishments for businesses who ignore the law.

President Donald Trump reiterated his demand in a new interview that Congress appropriate $5 billion for a border wall, saying he would “totally be willing” to shut down the government if he doesn’t get the funding.

Sure. For every law passed there are probably 5-10 lawyers making a living advising people or corporations on how best to violate it. We can see examples in every area, so why would this one be any different?

Mexican farm labor used to migrate back and forth across the border following the harvests, but that was way back before the border became highly militarized (pre-WWII for the most part). Your solution may be a good one.

I'm just making clear that plenty of conservatives also have an interest in seeing illegals stay put. ICE could arrest and deport thousands upon thousands of illegals if they'd simply raid all the farms in a couple of Iowa counties one late summer day. You know it, I know it, ICE knows it. Why don't they? They don't fear "leftists"; it's the reaction of the farm owners they're worried about.

Every statistic about China points to it having less literacy, worse health, less money, etc. etc. than America. Yet Chinese-American immigrants have more money, live longer, are better educated, and are less likely to commit crimes than the average native-born white American male. Maybe origin country statistics aren't quite predictive of success in America?
