Oh yeah. This is akin to 2006, which was the last time the Ds won any statewide state office. The state is probably a point or two more R than it was in 2006, but I think D enthusiasm and such makes up for that. Right now, they're polling even. There actually is some substantive reporting out there (e.g., the shit sandwich Recip Erdogan has created for himself in Turkey, Ali Khamenei's open criticism of the handling of Iran's economy by Iran's ruling elite, the UK's Brexit debacle) ..... some good stuff and there is plenty more important stuff to read. This shit show soap/opera is your government. If you think it should be ignored, then you have bigger issues on the table than Turkey, Iran or Brexit. Omarosa was employed for the very same unexamined reasons that tariffs on Turkey were hiked at a moment when you could have just sat back and watched Erdogan drown in his own hubris, and then lend a helping hand to the next guy in a way that could have brought that country back into the Western orbit once it finishes eating its humble pie. But that tweet was so perfectly timed I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that Erdogan paid Trump to tweet it. Quite possibly permanent damage done to US interests as a result. Ability to project power overseas diminishing by the day.
That said, people pay attention to the soap opera crap because it's a lot easier to get past the facts and go straight to opining, which is what many of us here do even when the topic may be perceived as serious. Many of you here were quite confident in the UK's ability to thrive on its own because you think regulations are inherently bad, failed to apply skepticism to the notion that the eurozone is overly regulated, or didn't understand the value of at least having a say in how they are formed.Comment
