Koch Brothers commissioned a study on Medicare for All. The study found that Medicare for All would save 2 Trillion over 10 years. So that is 200 Billion/year (more or less)
126.75 Billion it would cost to do free college (not counting room and board) for in state college (assuming 10k). The Pentagon/DoD did a study that they could be more streamlined with their operational overhead to the tune of 125 Billion/over 5 years. So that is 225 Billion/a year saved.
So in doing Medicare for All, you get the savings to make college more affordable for those making under 125k/year (note: not talking free college for everyone...just taking care of in state tuition...but you are reducing it a little over 50% at 4 year universities....it would be a big relief to many families). With enough money (98.25 Billion) to stat looking at giving student loan relief in some form (current student loan debt in default is 84-88 Billion).
If you can reduce the wars (looking at you Afghanistan/Pakistan and Iraq) and OCO <as detailed further up> along with reversing the 1.9 trillion dollar tax cut. Then you can do an income supplement (44 million Americans work full time and have a side gig...the economy is not working for them) at the tune of $500/mo.
With just those three things you have accomplished the following:
1) Gone with better outcomes for people health wise--- people would be more likely to go to the doctor and get help for preventive health care if they have the ability to pay for it.
2) Given more people the chance to achieve the American dream making college more affordable overall
3) Made government more efficent (at least in some areas) while helping out those that are working FT but still needing those side gigs. $500/mo is not a huge amount but that money would surely get spent so it would act as a shot in the arm for the economy that is not working for certain large segments of Americans.
4) Brought back troops that are going on 3rd, 4th or even 5th tours of duty. The military has gone over and above its job on GWOT, but that is not something that is going to be won on military might alone. It is going to take a lot of soft power and probably finding another solution to oil to power the economy. A lot of that money terrorists use is oil money---finding alternative ways to replace oil in the economy should be something that the US Government is promoting the hell out of. Find something be on that cutting edge and make oodles of money on and suddenly the money that used to be going to oil is going somewhere else. That terrorist funding (at least in part maybe a major part) dries up. GWOT is a generational war, but the US must also acknowledge that in this war that they have to do everything above board. That there are things that enemy does that we cannot do, because the second that you do those things it is used on their side as justification for what they do.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

You're going to have to link that Koch Brothers-funded study. But, really, I admire the approach of saying moving to Medicare for All will allow us to pay for so much more. That's some real motherfucking chutzpah.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Also, thank you kapture for that heads up about the NYT. I'd LOL, but it's almost too sadly predictable.
But, it's also worthwhile recognizing that this is a right-wing OUTRAGE!!!! mob. Jonah Goldberg briefly sums it nicely (IMO): https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/...-outrage-hunt/Last edited by iam416; August 3, 2018, 08:54 AM.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

medicare for all would cut services and lengthen waittimes. britain is already reaping the benefits of medicare for all
https://www.csmonitor.com/Business/Latest-News-Wires/2011/1211/Health-care-cuts-in-Britain-draconianHealth-care reforms amount to most sweeping changes in the 60 years of Britain's health-care system. Now, more cuts are planned.
For years, budget cuts at the National Health Service have left hospitals stretched over the winter. This time, it is under the highest strain in decades.
and just today
and just think you get all that if you make more then 55,000 dollars a year (45000 pounds) at a tax rate of 41%
50% of anything over 100K pounds
what a deal

Those two things aren't at all causally connected, IMO, Froot. The Medicare-For-All movement was one of Bernie's central planks in 2016 with the ACA still well in force and upheld by the Supreme Court. The Ds, over the past 2 years, have adopted more and more of Bernie's platform. It's a natural progression as the Ds become the Democrat [Socialists]. The idea that a sabotaged ACA is driving this is buffoonery; nothing but a way to get a snarky shot in at the Rs and their efforts to undo the ACA through non-legislative means.
Incidentally, I'm with you on the Rs. Either pass a law or don't. That's the proper process. But they could restore the ACA to it's grand glory tomorrow and the Ds that have called for Medicare-For-All wouldn't change their position one iota. And you know it.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

We have never needed 'medicare for all'. What we needed was for the working poor to be able to buy a wage adjusted medicare policy.
The really poor were already covered and the middle class and above had policies. It was the single mom working two jobs who had to make a choice between either quitting work to become really poor, or continuing to work and choosing rent or health insurance.

A lot of doctors will not take medicaid because of the hassle it is dealing with the government, with regulations and red tape, reimbursement times and amounts. Universal Medicare doesn't reduce the "away from patient care" burden doctors have to deal with, it buries them in it. Which add to costs that are never figured in upfront, as well as a reduction in quality AND quantity of patient care.

for everyone that thinks universal healthcare is the way to go, check out the VA system. The number of patients that have died waiting for a procedure while supervisors instructed employees to falsify patient wait times. the conditions at a lot of their facilities. the inability to fire poor administrators and care providers.
That is socialized medicine. that fails at servicing 9 million patients. Now imagine over 300 million patients.Last edited by Kapture1; August 3, 2018, 09:26 AM.
