  • From the Sioux Falls, South Dakota newspaper: Farmers losing patience as tariffs costs rise. The Farmers association suggests that the grumbling will be significant should the tariffs on soybeans still be in place at harvest time.

wrote to Trump. "Trade uncertainty over just the past few months has cost South Dakota farmers and ranchers hundreds of millions of dollars they could not afford to lose."

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimated that the proposed tariffs against China, Canada, Mexico and the European Union would threaten $129 million in South Dakota exports. But agriculture economists said it will likely cost the state more since those exports are a mainstay of the state's largest economic sector. And farmers and ranchers said they've already felt the economic hit.

"The retaliatory tariffs are just beginning and it's going to have a trickle-down effect," said Nelson. "The farmers are getting hit right off the bat."

    • Meadows and Jordan plan to file a motion of impeachment against Rosenstein on Monday. Very unclear (I would say unlikely) that Paul Ryan will allow it to see a vote. Trey Gowdy just said this morning that he will in no way support it. "Impeach him for what?" he asked on CBS.

      • Good piece on negotiations. I think it's high time we debated what it actually means to ``have a businessman in the WH", in the way that that gets talked about in American politics. Business and politics are obviously not the same thing. The natures of their financial balance sheets are fundamentally different. If we actually did have a CEO type of leader, we'd have someone obsessed with benchmarking against peers and maximizing leverage vis-a-vis several actors.

            • with all of the progressive's stories about the tariffs hurting Trump supporters, I am surprised they aren't supporting them and calling for more.

It will definitely hurt some people, it is still kind of small potatoes in a macro sense. Bush tried the steel tariffs and it cost the US economy jobs. They eventually got revoked because they didn't work. We can't expect that from Trump.

                • Trump does exhibit the trait all if those business types do, they love to tell you the great job they are doing regardless of empirical evidence. I have worked under a lot of different CEOs, most of them were shit, one was good and they all told you how great they were. The good one was Bob Iger.

US President Donald Trump, in a stunning rebuke of the US intelligence community, declined on Monday to endorse the US government’s assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, saying he doesn’t “see any reason why” Russia would be responsible.

                      • It's a common Trump tactic. Declare things horribly broken, then after a 3 hour meeting announce you've fixed everything while in reality very little changed. Praise yourself as the only one on earth who could've made this great thing happen.

The head of NATO is privately telling people virtually nothing new was agreed to but Trump is telling the world that he alone 'fixed' things. So far as anyone can tell, the North Korea agreement is much the same...very, very little has actually changed

These are just more of Trump real estate con jobs. It's not about actually achieving anything, it's about selling the idea that you are.
