  • Trump America protests outside the Red Hen

My favorite part of this story is the first guys there were some Confederate flag wavers calling for "more heritage". Then some Westboro Baptist Church types showed up and they immediately left, not wanting association with those "crazy bigots". lol, it's like a Turtledove novel come to life!

The Ds are either there (full Socialist) or on their way. She ran on single payer ("medicare for all") and Bernie's Everyone Gets a Job!!! proposal. And, of course, free higher education and such. Throw in her fantastic identity politics and SHE IS THE FUTURE. That is a message that plays on the Coasts.

The Ds are steaming toward the same sort of tearing apart the Rs are going through. One of Bernie's disciples is going to get elected President much sooner than later and then they'll wrestle with the internal civil war full on whilst the Rs bury them.

There is just no way the Ds can run coherently in Queens and in Suburban Columbus. The difference in positive messages is too much (they, of course, are united in their anti messages).

It's such a trainwreck for the likes of me (and entropy!!! the stalwart libertarian). My best hope is that the parties sort of transform into geographic parties -- the Ds continue down their wackjob path to coastal dominance and the Rs, against all odds, figure out a way to slam the brakes on their wackjobs and reclaim the few middle America states they don't already control.

        • Talent would have wrote a better opinion than Roberts in the Muslim ban case than that mealy-mouthed Roberts opinion. I believe he wouldn't have addressed Trump's comments as Roberts laughably did.

I think I still have it somewhere. I was the end of the line for it.

Every president is held to the same standard by the court, or should. I get you want a separate set of standards for this president, but the rule of law prevails.

You do realize that with the shift in message boards we have an entirely new audience that has yet to dip its toe in Turtledove's waters of literary ecstasy.

And, heh, looky at Froot trolling a dispositive wipeout of the 9th Circuit. Heh. He probably likes the Wise Latina's laughable shit that Breyer and Kagan wouldn't even put their name to.

                      • Along with Arizona and maybe Nevada, North Dakota is, IMO, the most interesting Senate race out there: https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/...-kevin-cramer/

You sort of get the sense that Heitkamp is the Ds last beachhead in that state. If she loses then it's hard to imagine a D winning statewide again for awhile.

And with 48 "safe(ish)" seats, the Rs need to win 2 contested seats -- North Dakota is probably their best bet.

                        • I see Mitt won. If he runs for president in 2020, I would vote for him. Warts and all.

He wouldn't win the Utah primary against Trump.

Possibly. I tend to think that things are a bit more fluid. Google tells me Trump finished third in Utah's republican primary this past election and in 2012, Mitt won 24 states vs Obama.

If the economy sours a bit I think it's possible. Many reasonable people are tired of the Trump schtick and bluster.
