  • Jesus, why would anyone want to work for this administration? Like the Cabinet, did they also have to be videotaped sitting around a table, licking Trump's ass?

    • Obviously we all have a different line where essential govt service becomes govt waste.
For Dr. "Strangelove" an essential service is any service pass by the Ds. And his threshold "too much" tax rate is 97%.

              • Millen's response:
                Rgr,

Clearly my post was directed at Kapture. I have no interest in derailing whatever convo you are having w/ hack.

I don't dispute power propensity to corrupt. I don't dispute people's constant and great capacity to enact evil. Who disputes that?

But those are all different, although related, claims from the premise that people are inherently evil -- unless there is some caveat to that I'm not privy to.

I commend your preloaded criticism of socialist progs. It is impressive to recall that diatribe so thoroughly.

i benefit greatly from the military industrial complex and although I fall center left on a few social issues, my continued occupancy pretty much eliminates any designation you are likely to hurl out of obvious reflex.

Please include sophomoric next time for the ultimate reduancy trifecta. Scathing.
So, man is, in his nature evil and you don't want to go down the rabbit hole of trying to prove man is good. Wise choice. But you may expect me to call you out on this matter when you support those who have power over those who have little power.

Which brings me to my old buddy DSL, who asks what should we think when AA says that "costing" Oklahoma tax income actually means that taxpayers "keep" their own money. Atomize everything. Citizens will spend their own money in a more efficient manner in almost every case.

Now I'm going to get political (which I seldom do). At death, assets held by the deceased get what is called a "stepped up basis". That means that if a man paid $ 1.0M for a farm, and it is worth $12M upon his death, he gets to leave it at a "new basis" to an heir and if that basis is, say $ 10M the heir takes the farm at that cost basis. If a wife is involved, he gets to leave $22M estate tax-free.

This is an unjust give-away IMO. If the heir wants to take title with a cost basis of $ 1.0m, then fine. Death should not be a cause for the imposition of taxes. But if the heir wants to take the farm at a stepped-up basis, say $ 10m he should pay capital gains tax on the $ 9.0 million stepped up basis.

The way the tax code now works, the older owners are encouraged to keep their assets until after their death. If you bought Microsoft at $ 80,00 per share and it is now worth (adjusted for splits) $ 2,500 per share it only makes sense for the original owner to hold the Microsoft until his death at which time he gets at least an $ 11M stepped up basis on his original stock.

So, might I suggest that this stepped up basis be taxed at capital gains rates, and I think most of us ought to tell our congressmen about this subtile tax scam.

                • The PA GOP got turned away by BOTH US District Court and the US Supreme Court today. They have no options left. The new PA congressional map drawn by the PA Supreme Court will be used for November.
