      • This is kind of scary. The FBI has been paying Best Buy to search your computer when you brought it in for repairs. (Paid $500 bounty if you found kiddie porn.) So the FBI is searching people's computers without warrant by proxy? It appears the FBI has taken a tack of if they are prevented from doing something by the Constitution (need a search warrant), lets have a third party do it for us. Go ahead, search for anything, we know there's no probable cause but if you find something, let us know.

Perhaps its time to break the FBI into smaller organizations by function. The feds seem to be taking their law enforcement objective to an Orwellian level.

          • And you think the idea of the FBI trying to overthrow a democratically elected president is outside the bounds of possible?

            Comment

            • I'm not sure the FBI needs a warrant. The touchstone for the 4th A is an "expectation of privacy" -- anyone who watched Law & Order knows this. So, the question then, is do you have an expectation of privacy in the contents of your computer when you give it to a third party to repair.

Of course, if they're being paid by the FBI then they are likely "agents" of the FBI and failure to announce themselves as such could be problematic.

              Very interesting, legally. Disturbing, practically.

                • LOL. Yeah, Farrakhan is an unmitigated fucking bigot. The #GentryProgs willingness to overlook his bullshit in the name of their hallowed shrine of intersectionalism tells you all you need to know about their principles.

                  • Also, kudos to the DOJ for suing California re their sanctuary city state laws. That SHOULD be a surefire loser given Supreme Court precedent. That said, the 9th Circuit will, of course, ignore the law. Or maybe not -- it's not even close. But, still, the 9th Circuit....

The bigger problem is how can he claim he agreed to the settlement agreement (making it enforceable) and claim that he didn’t have anything to do with the payment? Seems like an untenable argument to me.

The other problem is that there is just enough in the agreement to be tantalizing enough to speculate about. Would he prefer to have innuendo or the truth out there.

                          • Speaking of the truth .........

This is an interesting study of social media's ability to convey the truth. Intuitively you have to be an idiot to think it has any role in conveying the truth. It does seve as a means of social interchage but it also serves as a vehicle to advance falsehoods ..... in a very biggly way.

The study unequivocally shows that social media is a liars paradise. I have never had a social media account and never will. As this form of communications and social exchange grew in the late 80s, I had no time for it for one thing. As time passed, I recognized it as not only a huge time suck but a dnagerous convention. This study shows how dangerous social media is.

...........social media seems to systematically amplify falsehood at the expense of the truth, and no one—neither experts nor politicians nor tech companies—knows how to reverse that trend. It is a dangerous moment for any system of government premised on a common public reality.

Falsehoods almost always beat out the truth on Twitter, penetrating further, faster, and deeper into the social network than accurate information.

Already baked into the cake. People are well aware that Trump cheated on his first wife with his second wife, and on his second wife with his third wife. Nobody voted for him because of his outstanding moral virtues, and as long as he's not doing it to 23 year old interns in the Oval Office, not a single one of his voters gives a shit.
